Added Topaz Review

I’ve finally found a review of the Royd Topaz, from What Hi-Fi? April 1994. The Topaz was a budget 7 ltr stand mount speaker, that never gained a huge popularity, despite its respectable performance. Read the full review here.

New Royd Eden Review

Just added a review of the Royd Eden’s from Hi-Fi Choice, January 1989. The Eden’s are a strange small speaker, that are incredible heavy and polarised the reviewer opinions. Check out the full review here.

Sintra Review

Just added a review of the original Sintra, from Hi-Fi Choice, January 1991, which you can find here. The Sintra has always been one of Royd’s top end 7ltr stand mount models and has a strong reputation for being one of his best. Its rarity only compounds this.

It may not have escaped your notice, that the rare is currently on right now. Well worth checking out, as this models pops only once in a blue moon.

Rega Ela Information

Not technically a Royd speaker, however the Rega Ela Mk1 was developed in conjunction with Royd Audio and shared the same drivers and similar transmission line cabinet design, to the Royd Apex. Later versions of the Rega Ela changed this design and opted for a Rega driver and cabinet changes. The Rega Ela 2000 came much later and was a wholly different speaker. Due to this strong connection with Royd, I’ve added a page specific to the Rega Ela, detailing the different versions, which you can find here.
A while ago, I uploaded an interesting review from the day, comparing the Rega Ela (Mk1) and the Royd Apex. Well worth a read, as it contains a lot of detail of their differences and unique tonal characteristics.

Found a review of the Royd Apex in a Hi-Fi Choice, dating back to January 1990. Quite a positive review, almost made got a ‘Recommendation’, but missed it slightly due to price. Read it here.

Added Abbot Hi-Fi Choice Review

Added a review of the Royd Abbot from Hi-Fi Choice, May 1993. The Abbot was intended to supersede Apex, however as you read this review, had some teething problems and wasn’t quite as well received as perhaps hoped.

Since starting this website I have been inundated with requests regarding where you can buy Royd loudspeakers. Since Royd Audio Co Ltd is no longer in business and manufacturing speakers, this only leaves the second hand channels. As well as patience, knowing where to look can be key to this dilemma.
