The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions are intended to provide patrons with a cross-section of the music going experience. Multiple Award winning singer/songwriter Sarah MacDougall is known for her poetic songs and passionate performances. Sarah mixes folk, pop, and rock elements into her infectious, often epic songs. Born in Sweden, now based in Canada, Swedish magazine Nöjesguiden declared her: “one of Sweden’s best singer/songwriters' and Rootstime Belgium described her as 'One of the greatest talents of our era”.

Sarah has played festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, Edmonton Folk Festival, Reeperbahn, and has shared the stage with artists such as Bruce Cockburn, Tallest Man on Earth, Buffy St. Marie, Passenger, and more.
Her most recent release, ‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’is a record about strength, identity, death, the breakdown of relationships, birth, and the ghosts we honor and carry throughout. It is Sarah’s fourth record. It was written in the midst of the death of her grandparents, the birth of her niece, and a break up. The nine songs are also influenced by the places that made her and changed her: the dark beauty of Scandinavia the vastness of the Canadian North .

‘All The Hours I Have Left To Tell You Anything’was produced, recorded and mixed by Montreal-based Marcus Paquin (Stars, The Barr Brothers, Timbre Timbre, Arcade Fire, The National), with additional production and recording by Rich Jaques (Lisa Loeb), Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), and Bill Lefler (Royal Wood).

Paul Langille took to the stage at a very young age, singing and playing guitar in dance halls, service clubs, and numerous other venues in and around his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. He moved to London, ON in the early '70s where he was a regular fixture at the old Smales Pace Coffee House on Clarence Street.

These days a musician and artist must utilize all the voices available to him. Paul has many voices, all emanating from the heart and soul. Here are some of Paul’s strongest assets – An emotionally charged voice – A proven history as a guitar-smith with powerful and experienced song writing skills – A man with an honest passion for his music.

With the release of her debut EP, “Bittersweet Remedy”, Leanne Mayer has announced herself as a unique and exciting new voice in London, Ontario’s indie music scene.

The record features Leanne’s whimsical blend of jazz, blues, old school country, and pop folk. The five songs are a carnival of styles, from the sultry “See Through Lies” to the bouncing “Renegade” and melancholy “Whatever Will Be.”

Together, they represent the work of an artist who isn’t afraid to experiment, or to explore matters of the heart. Her raw, honest lyrics and soulful voice tell stories of loss and hope, coloured by just the right amount of world-weary wisdom and determination.

In fact, Leanne is currently nominated and has won a prestigious Forest City London Music Award in the Contemporary Singer/Songwriter category in 2019.

Her music has been featured nationally on CBC radio and is developing a dedicated following at her live shows (her EP release shows in London and her native Kirkland Lake, Ontario both sold out). She was a featured artist at London’s Home County Music & Art Festival in 2019, and opened for Cat Clyde on her North American Hunter’s Trance Tour.

After releasing two live-off-the floor singles in 2020 (“The Devil You Know and See Through Lies”) Leanne is currently working on her much anticipated full-length album with projected release in 2022.

Backed by a full band, London’s “lounge pop queen” is ready to take her career as far as it can go. As Leanne Mayer’s story continues to unfold, one thing is sure: Bittersweet Remedy is just the beginning!

The Sandplains Pickers is an exciting new musical project a gang of us put together to play original songs and tunes. The band is comprised of  – myself, country and bluegrass favourites Darrin and Alison Schott, North American fiddle champ Shane Cook and bass and electric guitar player Matt Rait. In concert, the five members of this versatile band trade off on vocals, guitars, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, harmonica, concertina and string bass. Look forward to some great three-part harmony singing as well.

The Pickers’ songs include great originals by Ian, Darrin and Alison as well a songs by other Norfolk County songwriters including Bruce “House” Milner and the The Band’s Rick Danko. The group’s songs paint a picture of darkest Southwestern Ontario from Backus Mill, tobacco kilns and farm kitchens to the Summer Garden dancehall, motorcycles and Port Dover fishermen. The musical style ranges from old-time country and folk to western swing and always includes some blazing fiddle tunes as well.

Every selection provides a great platform for the virtuosic playing of Shane Cook, who is the only fiddler to have won both the Canadian and US fiddle championships and Darrin Schott on mandolin and fiddle, whose talents have led him to work with The Good Bros., Susan Aglukark, The Ennis Sister and even Stompin’ Tom Connors.

In a darkened bedroom, lit only by the amber glow from an old floor model radio, two young brothers aged 6 and 12 lay in their beds, listening to the country music broadcasts from the Grand Ol’ Opry, and practiced their harmonies. Two years later, the youngest one was playing the definitive 8-year-old’s version of “Desolation Row” on his ukulele. He soon abandoned that instrument to teach himself the flute, violin and guitar.

Within ten years, and barely out of high school, Garnet Rogers was on the road as a full-time working musician with his older brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential acts in North American folk music.

Since then, Garnet Rogers has established himself as ‘One of the major talents of our time”. Hailed by the Boston Globe as a “charismatic performer and singer”, Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence – close to six and a half feet tall – with a voice to match. With his “smooth, dark baritone” (Washington Post) his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music, like the man himself, is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail, his songs “give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart” (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humour and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again.

Fraser Teeple has slowly built a catalogue of musical work that stands as an underground gem in the Canadian music scene. His economy and sensitivity as a songwriter evoke a young northern Springsteen, with a textured voice that can cut through an east end dive bar or soulfully creak out a heart-breaker to a still concert hall. Fraser approaches his songwriting craft like a tradesman: he respects the strong tradition he stands within, and works carefully and with dedication to master the simple skills of telling a story, creating an image, or crafting a melody. He has apprenticed in bars, coffee shops, and concert halls across Canada and Europe — and has become a soundtrack for driving down a dirt road, renovating a house, and burning driftwood on a northern beach.

Singer-songwriter Marty Kolls brings the energy of her east coast upbringing, classical music training, and life-long experience on the stage to every one of her performances. She mesmerizes her audience with her voice, melody and presence, with songs that speak of living life from the heart. “Marty Kolls is a revelation,” says the London Free Press’ Arts Editor, James Reaney. Marty released her first full length album entitled ‘This Life’ in 2014 to a standing room only audience at one of Canada’s top rated and intimate music venues, Aeolian Hall. This performance was an experience for all who attended and awaited for the arrival of this much anticipated album including her friend and producer Simon Larochette of Sugar Shack Studios. The album sums up much of Marty‘s experience as an artist and lover of life, not without it’s disappointments and battles. The title track ‘This Life’, inspired by a Richard Linklater film ‘Waking Life’ urges us to live in the present before there is ‘nothing left to give’.  Like warning bells going off in your head, the bombast of the horns and punch of the drums reiterate the same message. An artist who writes from experience Marty takes her audience to the many places she’s lived such as her beloved New Brunswick with it’s winding roads and formative memories.  She also speaks of her times living and working for years in Asia as a musician and teacher where her appreciation for privileged life was awakened. Upon her return to Canada in 2006 Marty was thrown into the mix of musical talent in Toronto Ontario. Finding her way through the modern era of online overnight sensations, she nestled into the musical venues of the west end like the Cameron House and the Dakota Tavern carrying on the traditions of her live music upbringing. There she stumbled upon producer Jesse Capon and together they produced a two song CD through the FACTOR Music Demo Grant, now offering Marty something to share with the industry. It wasn’t long before her stories would take a new turn upon discovering she was pregnant with her daughter, and shortly after made the move with her husband to his home town of London Ontario where they now live. Continuing to make music in a number of bands, including well known cover-grass band Kevin’s Bacon Train, Marty has found a home and community of strong musicians and friends. Now sharing the stage with acts like Sarah Harmer, Dan Mangan and Whitehorse, she continues to love and take pleasure in the good fortune that is ‘This Life’.

The Western Swing Authority is Canada's most recognized and awarded authentic Western Swing group. Made up of a collection of some of the country's finest touring and studio musicians, they came together to play the timeless style of music they love. Seamlessly combining stellar musicianship and vocals with traditional country and jazz standards and their own “new vintage” originals, they have created a sound that is truly their own.  

WSA have been recognized with awards and nominations in both Canada and the United States and are reintroducing the Western Swing sound to an entire new generation of music lovers with every performance. Their live show has been described as “all killer, no filler” by Cashbox Canada Magazine.

Their 4th studio album, “BIG DEAL”, includes guest appearances by 9x Grammy winner Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, Grammy nominated Jazz sensation Jane Monheit, Canadian Country Stars George Canyon and Jason McCoy, along with many more amazing artists who have added their support and talent to the project.  Over their almost 12 years together they have captured the attention of two of the music industry's most legendary icons, receiving an invitation to play a private party in Nashville in March of 2018 for none other than Garth Brooks and his manager Bob Doyle.

Though individual members’ touring and recording credits are impressive, including names like Gordon Lightfoot and Dean Brody, it is the sum of the parts that is garnering attention and recognition worldwide.

The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions take centre stage... in the comfort of your own home. Every month we premier at least four productions recorded at Aeolian's studios or in the artist's home. The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions are intended to provide patrons with a cross-section of the music going experience. From classical to jazz, rock to country, and bluegrass to folk, the Sessions aim to bring music back into your home and heart. Interested in one show only? Trust us: you'll like what you see. Try the Phoenix Sessions all month and experience a few productions that you might never have seen in person. Our goal was to reignite live music and get artists on stage, technicians behind the soundboard and our patrons on their feet listening to extraordinary talent in extraordinary times.

Membership to the Phoenix Sessions is $20 per month (automatically recurring) and you select the productions you wish to enjoy. Cancel anytime by contacting boxoffice@aeolianhall.ca. We do not have a multi-viewer pass. If you plan to safely watch with friends or family, please consider donating to further offset the costs associatedwith these productions. Tickets to individual productions are not available. Upon registration and after monthly validation, you will receive a confirmation email including a link that youx will use each time you wish to view aperformance. Quiet Talkers – The third release from London, Ontario born singer/songwriter Ken Yates.

Reuniting with Jim Bryson, who produced Yates’s 2016 release “Huntsville”, (which won two Canadian Folk Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year and New Artist of the Year), Quiet Talkers is a dark, introspective step away from acoustic, guitar-driven, folk songs, yet still maintains Yates’ signature guitar style and lyrics that never waste time getting to the point.

(Says Yates, “This by far my most personal album to date. I’ve always been better at observing than being a part of the action, so I like to think of this collection of songs as “thoughts from the quietest person in the room”. ) If Huntsville was about his experiences on the road, Quiet Talkers is about coming home, facing the monsters hiding under the bed – or in some cases, the monsters hiding in plain sight.

In songs like Grey County Blues, Surviving Is Easy, and Safe From Yourself, Yates tackles the challenges of mental illness and how it can lead to complacency, singing “I couldn’t tell you why the seasons roll on by but I am frozen still. If I don’t know by now I don’t think I ever will”, while When We Came Home and Disillusion Day search for the light at the end of the tunnel only to find there is no end.

Yet amongst all this darkness there is plenty of light. In Two Wrongs, Yates sings about two imperfect people finding a balance in one another, and Evangeline speaks words of encouragement, “Life can be a gold mine, if you’ve got a good mind. Stay inside the right lines, but don’t keep it too clean, Evangeline”.

On working again with Jim Bryson, Yates says “I didn’t really want to make another folk record, so this time around I wanted to let Jim loose and work his indie-wizard magic on these songs. We both come from very different musical backgrounds, but have similar taste, so it makes for a great musical bromance ”.

After almost a decade of extensive touring, supporting artists like Passenger, Stu Larsen, Rose Cousins and Jenn Grant, Yates is starting to find peace in his role as an independent artist. “Lately I’ve been able to take a step back and look at all the things I’ve been able to achieve almost purely on my own, and I’m starting to appreciate the small victories now”.

Though membership renews automatically, patrons must validate their membership number every month to receive an access code for each new set of productions by email. This process is not automatic. Patrons will receive their first access code immediately upon registration. An access code is only good for one calendar month. Validation instructions are contained in the Membership tab on this page, in our weekly newsletter and in the monthly rollover announcement sent by the Aeolian Box Office. We do not have a multi-viewer pass. If you plan to safely watch with friends or family, please consider donating to further offset the costs associated with these productions. Tickets to individual productions are not available. If you do not intend to subscribe for longer than one month, refunds will not be provided to patrons who forget to cancel their membership or who have not read the terms and conditions: membership renewal is automatic every 30 days. "In case you didn't get the memo, they're the best country band in North America," said Eye magazine about the Rizdales.

Lead by husband and wife songwriting team Tom and Tara Dunphy, the Rizdales are a hardcore honky tonk band from London, Ontario.  Their sound however, comes from deep in the heart of the American south.

Heavily influenced by the classic country greats, such as Ray Price, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn, The Rizdales sing about love, loss and reality without ever taking themselves too seriously.  They have released 7 critically acclaimed albums, were handpicked by the Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson to be her Canadian backing band and have played festivals, hole in the wall bars and concert halls from Ottawa to Austin, performing alongside such greats as Dale Watson, The Derailers, The Mavericks, and The Good Brothers, earmarking their place in Canadian roots music history.  The Rizdales' most recent release, "Lucky Enough" was released on September 8, 2018 and features instant country hits like the title track, "Lucky Enough", "Holding It All Together" and the Western Swing barn burner, "Honky Tonk Honeymoon".
