Fiker

Fiker is a singer/songwriter (and musician) who has been playing music and writing songs since the age of 13. Over the past 4-5 years, they have started performing their own music live. Fiker loves to sing, play, and listen to all genres of music, and they embrace a fluid, exploratory approach to sound that reflects their wide-ranging musical tastes. They feel genreless, which is freeing, as they’ve always desired the space to explore music without being boxed in. Their recent influences are rooted in R&B, jazz, soul, and neo-soul, though they are still discovering how those sounds will shape the songs they are currently writing. Fiker’s music is available on streaming platforms under the name "Fiker," with their song "heavyhand" now released. They have been influenced by artists such as Hayley Williams, Erykah Badu, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary Mary, Alanis Morissette, Pinegrove, and many more. With every new song, fiker continues to lean into curiosity, honesty, and the joy of musical exploration.

The Arrogant Worms

The Arrogant Worms have spent over three decades making fun of a big dumb world. Their songs have been played on the radio, the internet, and in outer space (on the space shuttle Endeavour). The Worms began at Queen’s University in 1991 when some members of the student cabaret group, The Queen’s Players, started writing songs and sketches for the campus radio station CFRC. Soon the group became The Arrogant Worms (Chris Patterson, Mike McCormick, and Trevor Strong) who have since toured ceaselessly across Canada (and select other parts of the world), released 13 albums, and recorded with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Their song, The Last Saskatchewan Pirate, has been covered by bands such as Captain Tractor and The Longest Johns, and their Happy Happy birthday song is a viral sensation with over one hundred million views of the various fan videos on YouTube. More than thirty years after they began, The Arrogant Worms continue to provide tuneful and silly escapism for everyone who needs it.

Andrew Spice

Andrew Spice is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter. His OutMusic-nominated debut album, Pretty Demons (Dead Daisy/Outside, 2003), earned rave reviews: “so sensitive it will break your heart” (The Varsity); “profound, beyond-Thom Yorke melancholy…a genuine talent whose lyrics are carefully wrought poems” (NOW Magazine); “between the loopy highs of Tori Amos and the degraded depths of Trent Reznor…with the talent on display on this album, I can see Andrew Spice one day reaching their status” (Swerve); “Spice manages to put his finger on our collective hearts” (The Toronto Star).

Subsequently, Andrew’s path took an unusual turn: he earned his Ph.D. and became a clinical psychologist. Then, 20 years after his debut album and while continuing to practice psychology, inspiration struck again and he returned to music. Andrew’s new album, With Animals, was produced by 2-time JUNO nominee Matthew Barber and features Grammy nominee Drew Jurecka. Its first singles, High Park and Gentle Sentinel, have garnered praise from the likes of Wonderland (“one of Canada’s brightest talents”), House of Solo (“this multi-talented artist delves deep into the complexities of anger, grief, and healing”), and FAULT (“tender, articulate, and raw, his voice has not only returned - it’s more powerful than ever"), as well as radio play on CBC and WXPN-FM. Like his very first songs, Andrew’s new music is devastatingly vulnerable with a queer male voice and piano at its centre. On With Animals, he plants his flag again - not as a nostalgic return, but a vital reintroduction.

The Grapes of Wrath Acoustic Duo

Kevin Kane first met Tom Hooper in 1977 (when they were aged 13 and 11) after Kevin and Tom’s older brother Chris bonded over a mutual love of The Beatles when the two had entered junior high school in Kelowna, BC. Kane started hanging out with the Hoopers in their basement for regular Friday night jam sessions, where they essentially learned to play their respective instruments together.

By 1983 - influenced in equal parts by the British Invasion of the 60s and the DIY attitudes and immediacy of punk and new wave - the trio took the name The Grapes Of Wrath and began working on the songs that would make up their debut EP (1984) and first album (“September Bowl Of Green”) in 1985, released by the fledgling Vancouver indie Nettwerk Productions. The band were soon signed by Capitol/EMI for the albums “Treehouse” (1987, with the breakout singles Peace Of Mind and Backward Town), “Now And Again” (1989, building on their successes with All The Things I Wasn’t and What Was Going Through My Head), and “These Days” (1991, featuring the hits I Am Here and You May Be Right). Thanks in no small part to the support of MuchMusic, The Grapes enjoyed gold and platinum sales and sold out shows at home in Canada, extensive radio play, and toured Europe twice in support of albums that also saw release in Japan, Australia, and South America. Then - with international success looming and for reasons no one is entirely clear on - the band disbanded in 1992.

Tom and Kevin resurrected the Grapes in the late 90s, releasing the album “Field Trip” (2000) on the Song Corp label, who folded immediately after its release. They came together again in the summer of 2009 for a series of acoustic duo shows around BC, celebrating their enduring friendship and the music they had created together. The following year, an offer from a festival for a full band reunion led to the return of drummer Chris, and the original three recorded “High Road” (2013 - named after the street the Hoopers lived on when they first started playing together as kids), their first album of new material in almost 22 years. They have been gigging regularly ever since and are arguably the longest- running and still-active “original lineup” in rock.

Now - and as they had done briefly in 2009 - Tom and Kevin will once again hit the road as a duo to perform The Grapes’ music in an intimate and unplugged setting - telling the stories behind the songs and putting the focus on the harmonies and melodies of their timeless music.

Dan Hill - is an international music industry legend and one of Canada’s most distinguished, authentic, and multi-talented artists: Grammy-winner, five time-Juno Award winner, Harold Moon Award, and inducted into the venerated Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Award . Dan is known for his heartfelt sensibility on two massive international hits, Sometimes When We Touch, recognized as one of the Top 100 Songs of the Century and one of Top 100 Most Played Songs of All Time, and Can’t We Try, which spent 29 weeks on Billboard charts . Dan has produced hit songs for Celine Dion and George Benson, with his compositions being recorded by artists such as Britney Spears, Rod Stewart, The Backstreet Boys, Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, and many more His voice is “smooth softness, with a light warmth,” perfectly describing both his original and recent works that fans still gather to enjoy today.

Andy Kim - "I’m excited to share the stage with my dear friend, the multitalented Dan Hill."

In 1969, Andy co-wrote Sugar Sugar - his first Billboard #1 hit. In 1974, Andy wrote a new song called “Rock Me Gently” and absolutely no one wanted to produce it. Andy loved the song, and he wouldn't take no for an answer. He formed his own record company, called !CE, and produced the record on his own. When it was released, “Rock Me Gently” went straight to #1 on the Billboard charts and it remained on the charts for a staggering 4 months. This second #1 Billboard song added to Andy's international success. In 2004, Andy’s collaboration with Ed Robertson of The Barenaked Ladies’ “I Forgot To Mention” gave him another Top 10, and Andy was voted by Canadian Music Week as the Best Solo Indie Artist of the Year.

A true Canadian son, Andy has had 9 top 40 Billboard hits including Baby I Love You. He was recently honoured with the appointment to the Order of Canada. He has been awarded the country’s top industry honours including a Juno award, the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and a star on Canada’s Walk Of Fame. Andy is a member of Songwriters Hall of Fame, was inducted into Billboard's Hit Parade Hall of Fame, and in 2017, for the 2nd time in their 70-year history, SOCAN honoured Andy with their Cultural Impact Award. Over his epic career, Andy has sold over 30 million records, and has over half a billion streams on Spotify and YouTube.

Almost Sold Out
Bobby Bazini

With over a decade of success including multiple JUNO and ADISQ Award nominations, Platinum records, tens of millions of streams and sold-out shows, Bobby Bazini returns with Pearl, a new album and something of a musical renaissance for the artist.

The concept of Pearl was born when Bazini came across an article in the National Geographic about how pearls are formed: when foreign objects such as grains or sand enter the oyster, it protects itself by surrounding them with layers of nacre. From an irritant, the oyster manages to create one of the rarest and most beautiful materials in the world! Fascinated by this concept, he was reminded of a darker time he had just lived through and felt strongly about using this idea as the inspiration for this next album.

He now needed to find someone who could help him bring this to life and immediately contacted Connor Seidel (1969 Collective, Charlotte Cardin, Les sœurs Boulay): "I'd been hearing his name everywhere for years. We got in touch, and it all started falling into place. I knew right away that I’d found the right producer for this project. In hindsight, I can safely say that I wasn’t mistaken.”

Both artists agreed to begin working a few weeks later. In the meantime, Bobby spent some time by the ocean. Having not taken a trip for a while he realized just how much he’d missed it. Whilst away, he started recording sounds on his phone for the album, particularly the sound of the breaking waves. Upon his return, during their first session, Connor and Bobby wrote Pearl, the album’s title track: "I told him about the effect the sea had on me, the National Geographic article, the transformation of something negative into something positive and I played him recordings of the waves... Connor was just as inspired as I was and after we finished Pearl, we decided to make the whole album around this idea.”

“Pearl was becoming a concept album right down to the very last detail. Be it the lyrics, the themes, the order of songs; or in the repetition of certain melodies and vocal tracks to evoke the idea of the sphere; in the interludes when you hear the sea; in the instrument choices (harp, flute, etc.); in the voices that we’d recorded to sound as if they were underwater; in the using of shells as percussion at various times throughout the album, everything, absolutely everything was going to lead us back to the pearl. Connor was very excited about this concept, sometimes even more than myself… I think (laughs). I thought it was so beautiful that my project became his project too. I've worked with many producers throughout my career and his approach was unique. He showed me the way to embody this concept as faithfully as possible across a little more than ten songs."

During their sessions, both artists shared a lot of music, particularly music from the 70's, like Terry Callier, Jorge Ben and Nick Drake. In just three weeks, a first version of Pearl was completed! "We often recorded vocals and guitars with our phones so as not to waste too much time as we wanted to completely focus on the writing. Some of those original guitar tracks, vocals and seaside sounds recorded with our iPhones even made the final mix".

After three weeks of pure creation, Bazini and Seidel were eager to record their new songs and started talking about who they should approach to join them in the studio for the recording sessions. They kept the guitars for themselves, preferring nylon strings, inspired by the playing of João Gilberto, the Brazilian bossa nova pioneer. And as the entire album was written on nylon strings they too had to feature on the final recordings. Seidel took charge of bass duties. "We had a dream team in mind for this project, and we even waited for everyone to be available to start recording. The first musician we called was Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson) and he played the drums, percussion, bells and saw! On keyboards, we invited Conner Molander (Half Moon Run). It's like he makes his keyboard sing, this guy’s amazing. His performances were so powerful and even ended up influencing the string arrangements. When Éveline Rousseau (The Barr Brothers) started playing the harp in the studio, something happened: it's as if we’d just entered Pearl's universe for real. On strings, we had Antoine Gratton who blew me away. Before I contacted him, everyone was talking about him. They say his arrangements have a floral touch, and that's just what he brought. The result is simply sublime. Félix Petit (Les Louanges), on flute and saxophone completed the ensemble. Finally, the sound engineer Charles-Émile Beaudin did a remarkable job in the studio. We talked a lot before recording began and we shared musical references. He understood right away where we wanted to go.”

Pearl, this creation made by an oyster to protect itself from irritants of the outside world; perfectly illustrates Bobby Bazini's journey toward this fifth studio album: "I feel like it's also my first, though. I've always dreamed of creating an album like this and now I have the freedom and team to do it. I had things to say, I had to get those songs out of me. It's an album that takes you places; while writing it, I constantly had the echo of the sea in my ears. I hope it’ll be the same for the listener.”
