LAURRAINE SIGOUIN

Laurraine Sigouin has appeared as a singer at Maggie's, Aeolian Hall, Restaurant Ninety One, London Music Club, Jazz by the Bog, London Jazz Society, and at the long-standing "Jazz for the People" concert series. She is a proud member of the wonderful vocal ensemble Mosaic, which has performed at the Home County Folk Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Along with Jake Levesque, she founded Enchanté which has been serving up a bilingual mix of jazz and other styles of music to London area audiences since 2004. Their motto is “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”, which is French for “Let the good times roll!”. She also performs with LP Soul, a collective of soul-loving musicians who are passionate about creating a musical experience that moves and grooves.

Laurraine is thrilled to have Steve Holowitz joining her at the piano, and Paul Stevenson on the trumpet for an exciting afternoon of music. Each of these three is a dynamic, seasoned performer, and together — well, just watch the sparks fly!

Julia Haggarty was born with music inside her. She’s the girl who could whistle before she could walk, and as the first-born to parents with no musical background or industry experience, they took note and started giving her opportunities to learn. When questioned, Haggarty responded, “I was so young, I didn’t know I could really do something with it. I never had a family member or anyone in my life pursue a career in the music industry so I didn’t even know there was a music industry! I just knew I loved it, and I sought it out wherever I could. But I always loved singing the most.”

Flash forward to today, and those years of piano, guitar and voice lessons, couples with years performing in competitive choir and orchestra that took her around the world, Julia is a seasoned performer with a strong moral and musical foundation. During her studies at Western University (BMus Hon. Voice Performance, ArtDp Voice Performance) this artist took time to explore her options. “Even though I’d had all these years of experience, my eyes were really just starting to open to the realm of possibilities”, she says. “My training was very formal and traditional, and there was a type of freedom I felt when I brought my focus to original music. Suddenly I wasn’t just a voice — I had a voice.” Haggarty is a founding member of the internationally-renowned a cappella group Six Vocal Ensemble (Six), with whom she sang lead and toured across Canada, the U.S., Europe and South Korea, focusing on arena shows and giving presentations and workshops at elementary and secondary schools. Six recorded two albums, the first nominated for 6 CARA awards and the second album winning folk album of the year (2015.) Julia recalls, “It was a bittersweet win as some of the members were starting to look at other careers. It was hard for me to celebrate knowing that the group was ending. I didn’t know exactly what I would do next, but I knew it would be music. It’s always been music.” Haggarty released her first self-funded EP “Day One” in 2015.

Peter is an old soul - Gina is a young spirit at heart, so they never had to compromise - they just balance each other.

They first worked together in an 18 piece big band -  both love all kinds of music, love to share and enjoy teaching.  They decided to adopt each other and spend a lot of time rehearsing and experimenting with new tunes and styles, swapping cds, drinking really good coffee and just being goofy.

Peter is a Kenora boy whose jazz inspired Radiohead, Sting and Miles show sold out Aeolian Hall.  He always has a new project on the go including stage work like playing for Jesus Christ Superstar and Funhome in between all his gig work with Julia Haggarty and his funk band project.  Gina’s made music everywhere-everything from singing standards with a jazz quartet in Hamburg, playing electro violin in a a bunch of rock bands and Great Gigging it with a Pink Floyd Tribute band.

Owner of AK Arts Academy, a performing arts studio specializing in music dance and drama lessons, courses and workshops, Alexandra is a well rounded and experienced performing artist and instructor. She’s directed and produced several plays and musicals, including her own 2 Christian based musicals What He Did and He is Born. Upcoming, she is the musical director for The Little Mermaid at Palace Theatre, directing and producing Shelter, a tv series for kids.

Fraser Teeple has slowly built a catalogue of musical work that stands as an underground gem in the Canadian music scene. "Joy seems central to Nobuntu's existence: it's present in their glorious singing, their expressive dancing, even in their dress — plaids, stripes, florals in colors as exuberant as their vocals." – Tampa Bay Creative Loafing (alternative newsweekly). “Nobuntu” is an African concept that values humbleness, love, unity and family from a woman’s perspective. The ensemble represents a new generation of young female singers who celebrate and preserve their culture, beauty and heritage through art; their mission is informed by the belief that music can be an important vehicle for change, one that transcends racial, tribal, religious, gender and economic boundaries. The women have made dozens of TV and radio appearances throughout Africa and Europe promoting their three recordings (Thina, 2013; Ekhaya, 2016; Obabes beMbube, 2018) and the culture of their homeland.  Nobuntu were nominated for Best Musician of the Year at the 2015 Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards (London, UK) and are currently a two-time winner (2017 & 2019) for Outstanding Imbube/a cappella Act at the Bulawayo Arts Awards. In addition, they were a huge critical success at renowned festivals Trans-Vocal in Frankfurt and Voice Mania in Vienna. Their first tour of Canada occurred in 2016, with performances in London (for TD Sunfest), Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Victoria.

Online magazine Jazz Weekly says, Adrian Raso “(has) got gypsy blood and makes his guitar sing like a midnight crooner.”  It’s a fitting description for this rather raffish Toronto-based musician who also looks the part in his Zegna pinstripe suit, black Biltmore Eleganza fedora and Ted Baker tie. Raso is a guitar virtuoso and exceptional songwriter (channelling Johnny Cash’s ghost and deep south voodoo), whose jaw‐dropping live shows never fail to impress.  He has released two instrumental EPs and ten full‐length albums, featuring everything from Django Reinhardt-influenced Gypsy Swing to Brian Setzer-style Rockabilly. One of Adrian’s greatest loves (Balkan brass music) won him his greatest success to date: recording and performing live with Romania’s sensational twelve-piece Fanfare Ciocarlia, who are famous for playing their unique regional take on Roma folk music at breakneck tempos and have sold hundreds of thousands of albums worldwide.  Their 2014 release together, “A Devil’s Tale” (Asphalt Tango Records), even featured Raso’s name above the band’s; it topped European world music charts, earned plenty of critical plaudits and led to a European tour that showcased the guitar wizard’s songs and skills to hundreds of rabid fans.  Fanfare Ciocarlia and Adrian Raso also headlined to much acclaim at TD Sunfest ‘16. Adrian’s upcoming visit to London is in support of his aptly titled 10th studio, “Gypsybilly King” (released on October 25, 2019), which blends furious Rockabilly guitar with other rough-hewn influences ranging from Country & Western to Romanian Hora, deep south Blues and Italian Tarantella.

Amanda Martinez is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter whose music exultingly blends her unique Mexican and South African roots with flamenco soul.  Amanda’s career highlights to date include headlining the Blue Note jazz club in New York City, the FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the Pan American Games in Mexico and Canada.  She has also been a guest recording and touring artist of award-winning guitarist Jesse Cook.  On multiple occasions, she has sold out Toronto’s Koerner Hall as well as Ottawa’s National Arts Centre and Winter Garden Theatre. Amanda credits her longtime band for being a huge support to her career. “They are world class musicians whom I feel lucky to play with. Each one contributes to our overall sound.” The ensemble features her guitarist and now producer Kevin Laliberte; her husband, bassist Drew Birston; and a premier group of Cuban Canadians: percussionist Rosendo “Chendy” Leon, trumpet player Alexander Brown, violinist Osvaldo Rodriguez and tres player Pablosky Rosales. Amanda Martinez has recorded four albums (Sola, 2006; Amor, 2009; Mañana, 2013; and Libre, 2019).  For her latest, she called on new collaborators to tell stories about women finding their strength.  Amanda says, “Libre has a different feel to it, as I wanted to explore adding an African influence. Then I ended up expanding things to include artists from other genres. A lot of the songs are duets which showcase different voices.  These include Juno-winning songwriter and guitarist Donné Roberts, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Elsten Torres, who co-wrote ‘Hey Corazon’, Kellylee Evans who performs and co-wrote ‘Libérame’, and Guadalupe Urbina from Costa Rica.”

SARINA HAGGARTY

Sarina Haggarty has been making music for as long as she can remember. She has been an inspirational figure for many around the world. With the wide amount of support and fans, Sarina has performed in front of full houses in many of the venues in her hometown such as London Music Hall, Aoelian Hall, London Music Club and more. Sarina’s music has gained attention from many in the music industry for her soulful songs that are beyond her years. Successfully selling out London Ontario’s top venues, Sarina has released two EP’s in the past two years “Missing Pieces” in 2016 and her new EP “Compass” in 2018.

Born and raised in London, Sarina was always surrounded by musicians as her family is very musically inclined. She has been inspired by other artists around her and has used reality to help her write original music. Sarina’s music branches out into every genre possible.

She has had encounters with artists such as Sarah Smith, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Lennon & Maisy Stella, Kim Churchill, Shawn Mendes and Mark Schulman. Growing up, Sarina was a Make-A-Wish patient, and dreamed to perform on stage with a major artist. She did upload a cover video while in the hospital of her singing “Don’t Let Me Down” by The Chainsmokers ft. Daya which went viral and got noticed by thousands with much feedback. She then had the opportunity to perform at Quicken Loans Arena during a sold out Shawn Mendes concert in Cleveland, Ohio where she shared her first original ever written song “Distracted”. A couple weeks later, her wish was said to be a highlight of 2017 internationally and she then started attending Make-A-Wish conferences worldwide as a speaker and a guest performer. From Toronto, Phoenix and Dublin - it never gets old. Experiencing the tour life encouraged her to have high hopes and keep dreaming to be on her own successful tour one day.

This past year Sarina has been involved in things such as London Music Office, Jack Richardson Music Awards (Winning Fan Favourite 2018 and presenting the award in 2019), Western Fair, Bethany’s Hope Foundation, London Celebrates Canada, Make-A-Wish, Epilepsy Support SWO, LHSC and many events she gets asked to perform at. Sarina has performed in local open mic nights along with the national anthem for the London lightening and on Canada Day at Harris Park. Sarina regularly uses her music ability to raise money for various charities in any way possible. She is involved in all Forest City London scene and is grateful for all the musicians and management she has met.

Sarina frequently gets interviewed on National Radio stations and has had many articles written on her journey and music. Radio stations such as Country 104, CFPL 980, 103.1 Fresh Fm, Fm 96.7, Jack Fm, CBC London, Easy 101 and CHYM 96.7. Starting local, she then ended up live on air with Niall Boland on Classic Hits 94-105FM in Dublin, Ireland. She has shared her journey with companies such as CTV, London Health Science Centre, CBC, CORUS and Rogers.

She is currently attending Fanshawe’s Music Industry Arts learning from professors and meeting more musicians of all ages. She is heading into studio this year with unbelievable producers and engineers, getting ready to release new music of her own genre.
