Born from the ashes of Rant Maggie Rant, Maggie's Wake is an exciting collaboration between RMR co-founder Lindsay Schindler (fiddle, vocals) and Tara Dunphy (tin whistle, flute, fiddle, vocals), lead singer and songwriter of acclaimed country outfit, The Rizdales. They are joined by a powerhouse band of Ontario's finest musicians, including Rob Larose on percussion, Andrew Kosty on bass and special guest Kyle Waymouth on guitar.

United in their passion for fiery tunes, soaring vocals with rich harmonies, meaningful stories and beautiful melodies, Lindsay and Tara are taking the foundation laid during the Rant Maggie Rant period and building an exciting, new sound. With influences ranging from classical to cajun, traditional celtic tunes and folk songs, latin rhythyms and jazz fusion, Maggie's Wake is all about adventure.

The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions take centre stage... in the comfort of your own home. Every month we premier at least four productions recorded at Aeolian's studios or in the artist's home. The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions are intended to provide patrons with a cross-section of the music going experience. From classical to jazz, rock to country, and bluegrass to folk, the Sessions aim to bring music back into your home and heart. Interested in one show only? Trust us: you'll like what you see. Try the Phoenix Sessions all month and experience a few productions that you might never have seen in person. Our goal was to reignite live music and get artists on stage, technicians behind the soundboard and our patrons on their feet listening to extraordinary talent in extraordinary times.

Terms and Conditions

Membership to the Phoenix Sessions is $20 per month (automatically recurring) and you select the productions you wish to enjoy. Cancel anytime by contacting boxoffice@aeolianhall.ca. We do not have a multi-viewer pass. If you plan to safely watch with friends or family, please consider donating to further offset the costs associatedwith these productions. Tickets to individual productions are not available. Upon registration and after monthly validation, you will receive a confirmation email including a link that youx will use each time you wish to view aperformance. Based in London Ontario, Canadian guitarist Andrew Cloutier has been making music professionally since the early 2000s. He studied at Western University in London, with a focus on music theory, composition, and classical guitar performance.

He has received awards and recognitions from the Jack Richardson London music awards, the OMFA provincial music festival, and Western University. He has also participated in masterclasses with world renowned guitarists and composers, including Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, the Assad Brothers, and David Russell.

As a performer, his musical interests include the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, music from South America, and works by contemporary composers. In addition, he is an instructor at the London Academy of Music, and the music director at Strathroy United Church in Strathroy Ontario.

Flamenco del Sur and TD Sunfest Canada are very excited to present two interactive workshops with Los Aurora prior to their show at the Aeolian Hall on Jan 31, 2020!!

The workshops will be from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm on January 30, 2020.

Please choose from:

Workshop 1 (for Dancers) - Flamenco palos and palms. Introduction to the rhythms of tangos (tientos, tango, rumba) and Soleá (Soleá, Alegrías y Bulerías)

or

Workshop 2 (for Musicians) - Introduction to Flamenco-Jazz: Flamenco rhythms and “palos” combined to jazz instrumentation (drums, bass and piano)

Then, there will be networking and refreshments from 7:30 to 8:00 PM

Irresistible harmonies and beguiling rhythms mark the exuberant performances of this female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe. Nobuntu have drawn international acclaim in repertoire that ranges from traditional Zimbabwean songs to jazz & gospel; their pure and powerful voices backed by simple percussion, traditional instruments such as the mbira (thumb piano), and organic dance movements. "Joy seems central to Nobuntu's existence: it's present in their glorious singing, their expressive dancing, even in their dress — plaids, stripes, florals in colors as exuberant as their vocals." – Tampa Bay Creative Loafing (alternative newsweekly). “Nobuntu” is an African concept that values humbleness, love, unity and family from a woman’s perspective. The ensemble represents a new generation of young female singers who celebrate and preserve their culture, beauty and heritage through art; their mission is informed by the belief that music can be an important vehicle for change, one that transcends racial, tribal, religious, gender and economic boundaries. The women have made dozens of TV and radio appearances throughout Africa and Europe promoting their three recordings (Thina, 2013; Ekhaya, 2016; Obabes beMbube, 2018) and the culture of their homeland.  Nobuntu were nominated for Best Musician of the Year at the 2015 Zimbabwe International Women’s Awards (London, UK) and are currently a two-time winner (2017 & 2019) for Outstanding Imbube/a cappella Act at the Bulawayo Arts Awards. In addition, they were a huge critical success at renowned festivals Trans-Vocal in Frankfurt and Voice Mania in Vienna. Their first tour of Canada occurred in 2016, with performances in London (for TD Sunfest), Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Victoria.

Online magazine Jazz Weekly says, Adrian Raso “(has) got gypsy blood and makes his guitar sing like a midnight crooner.”  It’s a fitting description for this rather raffish Toronto-based musician who also looks the part in his Zegna pinstripe suit, black Biltmore Eleganza fedora and Ted Baker tie. Raso is a guitar virtuoso and exceptional songwriter (channelling Johnny Cash’s ghost and deep south voodoo), whose jaw‐dropping live shows never fail to impress.  He has released two instrumental EPs and ten full‐length albums, featuring everything from Django Reinhardt-influenced Gypsy Swing to Brian Setzer-style Rockabilly. One of Adrian’s greatest loves (Balkan brass music) won him his greatest success to date: recording and performing live with Romania’s sensational twelve-piece Fanfare Ciocarlia, who are famous for playing their unique regional take on Roma folk music at breakneck tempos and have sold hundreds of thousands of albums worldwide.  Their 2014 release together, “A Devil’s Tale” (Asphalt Tango Records), even featured Raso’s name above the band’s; it topped European world music charts, earned plenty of critical plaudits and led to a European tour that showcased the guitar wizard’s songs and skills to hundreds of rabid fans.  Fanfare Ciocarlia and Adrian Raso also headlined to much acclaim at TD Sunfest ‘16. Adrian’s upcoming visit to London is in support of his aptly titled 10th studio, “Gypsybilly King” (released on October 25, 2019), which blends furious Rockabilly guitar with other rough-hewn influences ranging from Country & Western to Romanian Hora, deep south Blues and Italian Tarantella.

Amanda Martinez is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter whose music exultingly blends her unique Mexican and South African roots with flamenco soul.  Amanda’s career highlights to date include headlining the Blue Note jazz club in New York City, the FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the Pan American Games in Mexico and Canada.  She has also been a guest recording and touring artist of award-winning guitarist Jesse Cook.  On multiple occasions, she has sold out Toronto’s Koerner Hall as well as Ottawa’s National Arts Centre and Winter Garden Theatre. Amanda credits her longtime band for being a huge support to her career. “They are world class musicians whom I feel lucky to play with. Each one contributes to our overall sound.” The ensemble features her guitarist and now producer Kevin Laliberte; her husband, bassist Drew Birston; and a premier group of Cuban Canadians: percussionist Rosendo “Chendy” Leon, trumpet player Alexander Brown, violinist Osvaldo Rodriguez and tres player Pablosky Rosales. Amanda Martinez has recorded four albums (Sola, 2006; Amor, 2009; Mañana, 2013; and Libre, 2019).  For her latest, she called on new collaborators to tell stories about women finding their strength.  Amanda says, “Libre has a different feel to it, as I wanted to explore adding an African influence. Then I ended up expanding things to include artists from other genres. A lot of the songs are duets which showcase different voices.  These include Juno-winning songwriter and guitarist Donné Roberts, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Elsten Torres, who co-wrote ‘Hey Corazon’, Kellylee Evans who performs and co-wrote ‘Libérame’, and Guadalupe Urbina from Costa Rica.”

France’s Hanatsu Miroir presents a program centered around the works of Canadian composer, Samuel Andreyev.  Ranging from solo pieces to works using the full quartet’s unusual instrumentation (flute/clarinet/percussion/cello), the ensemble focuses on multidisciplinary pieces that involve poetry, dance, visual and video art with the goal of bringing contemporary music to the masses.

Samuel Andreyev grew up in the town of Kincardine, moving with his family to Toronto in 1988.  Enrolling in The Royal Conservatory of Music he studied cello and oboe as well as composition.  He settled in Paris in 2003 to study composition, initially with Allain Gaussin, then with Frédéric Durieux at the Paris Conservatoire.  His music is performed throughout the world, and has been featured in numerous portrait concerts, CDs and films.

This concert will premiere Mr. Andreyev's newest works as just released on Hanatsu Miroir's Music With No Edges CD.

HANATSU Miroir was founded in 2010. Resulting from the encounter of flutist Ayako Okubo and percussionist Olivier Maurel, the ensemble has a strong focus on developing and disseminating the contemporary music repertoire. Over the years, the integration of mediums other than music has become the group’s trademark, allowing them to open new avenues for understanding and interpreting the contemporary music repertoire.

Essentially focused on human encounters, HANATSU miroir attempts to forge links, building bridges between cultures, performers and composers, between civilizations and their art, and between music and the public. Through a flexible, open organisation, the ensemble integrates painting, scenography, visual arts, dance and theatrical forms.

HANATSU miroir’s initiative is to re-situate music in the art of time, and to enhance the musical perception of the audience, to guide it differently through the use of other artistic mediums. This approach has attracted numerous young composers, who wish to contribute to the unique project of HANATSU miroir by composing new works and developing common projects.

Forest City London Music Week is the biggest celebration of London and area music and musicians. Planning for the event dates back to the early years of the project and with the help of our volunteer Board of Directors and some 60 volunteers forming the FCLMA Steering Committee we highlight the areas best in music.

The week is comprised of a number of events celebrating, encouraging and supporting musicians from this area of Ontario. FCLMA week is anchored by the FCLMA Classical, Jazz, World Music Awards Gala on opening night at the famed Aeolian Hall and closes with the FCLMA Pop & Rock Awards Gala Show at the London Music Hall.
