Featuring inventive solo work, driving rhythms and three part vocal harmonies, New Cumberland’s musical integrity and joy in playing together resonates in every performance. The resumes for the various individuals in New Cumberland include bluegrass stints with the Dixie Flyers, Rural Retreat and Cumberland Wail – as well as wide ranging experiences outside bluegrass in rock and folk music. Proficient in the straight ahead driving bluegrass of Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin, New Cumberland also stretches the genre in directions taken by The Seldom Scene, John Hartford and Jerry Garcia’s Old and in the Way. Songs from non- bluegrass artists such as the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Stones and Willie P. Bennett are also liable to appear on a New Cumberland set list.

Rick has been working as an independent music & theatre professional in various capacities since proudly graduating with his BFA from the University of Windsor’s, School of Dramatic Art. Rick received his Masters degree from UWO's, Don Wright Faculty of Music in Literature & Performance with a focus in Music Theatre. He is a member in good standing of Canadian Actor’s Equity Association (CAEA). In 2020 Rick was nominated 2020 Jazz Vocalist of this year - the same award he  received in 2019 (Jazz Vocalist of the Year Award) through the Forest City London Music Awards (FCLMA). Several projects he's led have received Brickenden Awards - Vigil, Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens & The Secret Garden. Fringe Festival Awards include JUDY: Stonewalled!, Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens. He is also a proud LAC Community Investment Grant Investment recipient. He has worked as an artistic director, producer, director, actor, singer, voice teacher/coach, acting teacher/coach & workshop leader. Scroll down for full list of awards below...

He served as Artistic Director at The Port Stanley Festival Theatre in Port Stanley, ON, and at The Bluewater Summer Playhouse in Kincardine, ON. Rick created the professionally engaging (CAEA) theatre company in London, ON, a missing link theatre company (amltc). In its two seasons amltc staged JUDY: Stonewalled! (Outstanding Cast Award - London Fringe 2014), Billy Bishop Goes To War, A Really RETRO Christmas Special - 2014, 2013 & 2012, VIGIL (2013 Brickenden Award Winner - Outstanding Comedy & Actress), The World Premiere Production of  Norm Foster's The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby & A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.

Rick is the Artistic Director of LINK theatre which began in December of 2015 with a really Retro CROONER Christmas. The show has become an annual production. In 2019 the show toured the Province of Ontario. The Crooners visited Huron Country Playhouse, Drayton Festival Theatre, Meaford Performing Arts, to name a few… In 2020, due to Covid, they had only two live performances - December 5th and 12th at Paradigm Spirits at 100 Kellogg Lane – a stripped down version of the show, An Intimate Crooner Christmas (Check out LINK theatre's page for information - www.linktheatre.ca). In 2017 LINK staged the OUTRAGEOUS musical comedy Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens. Due to being wildly popular with audiences, it was remounted in 2018... Both productions were presented in The TABU Lounge at Jack's on Richmond Street in London.

Rick has created, produced and performed in a variety of Jazz/Swing/Musical Theatre themed shows such as the a really Retro CROONER Christmas show, a Really RETRO Specials, Songs From The Bar ...and one more for the road, From Broadway to Jazz..., A Holiday Celebration of Jazz..., Broadway Lights & Hot Summer Nights, A New Years Eve Celebration of Swing…, The Gangsters of Swing & What Happens In Vegas… Other projects are currently in the works…

In the past several years Rick has been very involved in many youth mentorship initiatives at the Grand Theatre in London. For 10 years Rick worked as Vocal/Singing Coach on The Highschool Project; Les Miserables (2016), Hello Dolly, The Addams Family: A New Musical, Legally Blonde, My Fair Lady, Footloose, Anything Goes, Grease, The Pirates of Penzance & Les Miserables (2007). As well as ongoing work with The Grand Academy as the acting coach & voice through Broadway Songs instructor.

For the past several years now, Rick has been adjudicating with the RISE 2 FAME Youth Talent Search with contestants from across Southwestern Ontario. He has taught acting at both Fanshawe College in the Acting Program as well as UWO's Continuing Studies and the Don Wright Faculty of Music Master's Program.

Mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah is a singer, actress and broadcaster who dazzles audiences with her engaging personality and her rich, expressive voice. Miss Nesrallah has sung for leading opera companies, symphonies, festivals and chamber music ensembles across Canada and the U.S. and around the world. Julie débuted as Isabella in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri at Pacific Opera Victoria and went on to perform major roles including The Composer in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Cenerentola in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen and Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto, among others.

Concerts and festivals include engagements in Paris, Vienna, Hong Kong, Jordan, Macau, Brazil. In 2015, Miss Nesrallah sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City in a concert for harp and voice.  She sang God Save the Queen for “Will and Kate” the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their first visit to Canada on Parliament Hill in a performance that was viewed around the world. She was the sole vocalist in “An Evening for Peace” for Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan in Montreal.

Currently, Miss Nesrallah is the host of Tempo on CBC Music, Canada’s national classical music program; and is also the executive producer and star of Carmen on Tap, a company she created that performs Bizet’s opera Carmen as dinner theatre. Julie has been the recipient of several distinguished awards including the Canada Council for the Arts Emerging Artist Award, and most recently the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her cultural contribution to Canada’s performing arts.

Miss Nesrallah graduated with honours from Carleton University in Ottawa where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in music and continued her studies at McGill University in Montreal graduating with a Performance Diploma.

Born in small town Port Elgin, Ontario, Brett picked up the guitar for the first time at the age of 23, setting course a musical voyage that would forge the future of this unsuspecting Canadian country-rock super talent. 

Brett, a modern day renaissance man, has traversed the globe as a professional musician, model, actor, artist, and firefighter.  Audiences and fans across North America have enjoyed his unique acoustic style, unmistakable raspy drawl and dynamic presence, having shared stages with such revered artist’s as Everclear, I Mother Earth, David Wilcox, Dallas Smith and Deric Ruttan to name a few.  Brett has written and recorded with members of Megadeath, Fuel, Alice Cooper and Kings X, has had original music chart on international mainstream radio, and has had success with original music licensing to international television and film (most notably ABC’s daytime hit soap opera “One Life To Live”

​But life is full of peaks and valleys, and Brett fell upon some dark and difficult times, losing his footing for those worlds in which he previously both thrived in and loved.  Crippled with addiction, depression, and anxiety, Brett stumbled aimlessly through life for many years, leaving dormant his passion and purpose for music, creation, and connection.

​In 2018, digging deeply, Brett began fully facing his demons and devices, committing to his self care, love and improvement.  Steadily shedding his shackles; sober, sound and fully supported by family, friends, fans and followers; Brett has re-emerged triumphantly into his life, recalibrating his mind and heart in the direction they were meant to travel - one towards harmony, freedom, and very importantly, music.

Excitedly exploding back in to the Canadian and International music scenes, in the spring of 2019, Brett released his bold and powerful 3 song EP “Better Everyday.”; a vulnerable collection of tales of love, leaves, liquor and loss.  Off of its heels,  in 2020 Brett released the poignant and important song "The Questions Burn" - a co-written song denoting the tragic story of a O.P.P. Officer and friend who had found his brother who had tragically taken his own life.  

The Rebelheart Collective is a chamber music ensemble formed to celebrate classical and new music from varied cultural backgrounds.  Its main focus is to make music performance and education accessible to all and support Social Justice causes through collaboration and awareness.  With a focus on collaboration, community and apprenticeship opportunities, the Collective aims to dissolve barriers between artists and audiences with a relaxed presentation and welcoming spirit.

Aeolian Halls’ Rebelheart Collective is a self-conducted music ensemble rooted in democracy through music. With a focus on collaboration, apprenticeship and community engagement, the Rebelheart Collective transforms the traditional concert going experience by providing complimentary access to live performances in a socially relaxed setting. At its core, the musicians are highly trained professionals who have chosen to give back to the community, helping to train our next generations of musicians including participants of the El Sistema Aeolian program. The Collective’s repertoire includes classical music, contemporary works, and compositions and arrangements that speak to the Canadian music tradition: many of which celebrate our collectively local and Indigenous history.

The Sandplains Pickers is an exciting new musical project a gang of us put together to play original songs and tunes. The band is comprised of  – myself, country and bluegrass favourites Darrin and Alison Schott, North American fiddle champ Shane Cook and bass and electric guitar player Matt Rait. In concert, the five members of this versatile band trade off on vocals, guitars, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, harmonica, concertina and string bass. Look forward to some great three-part harmony singing as well.

The Pickers’ songs include great originals by Ian, Darrin and Alison as well a songs by other Norfolk County songwriters including Bruce “House” Milner and the The Band’s Rick Danko. The group’s songs paint a picture of darkest Southwestern Ontario from Backus Mill, tobacco kilns and farm kitchens to the Summer Garden dancehall, motorcycles and Port Dover fishermen. The musical style ranges from old-time country and folk to western swing and always includes some blazing fiddle tunes as well.

Every selection provides a great platform for the virtuosic playing of Shane Cook, who is the only fiddler to have won both the Canadian and US fiddle championships and Darrin Schott on mandolin and fiddle, whose talents have led him to work with The Good Bros., Susan Aglukark, The Ennis Sister and even Stompin’ Tom Connors.
