Welcome to the Aeolian Phoenix Sessions

The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions take centre stage... in the comfort of your own home. Every month we premier at least four productions recorded at Aeolian's studios or in the artist's home. The Aeolian Phoenix Sessions are intended to provide patrons with a cross-section of the music going experience. From classical to jazz, rock to country, and bluegrass to folk, the Sessions aim to bring music back into your home and heart. Interested in one show only? Trust us: you'll like what you see. Try the Phoenix Sessions all month and experience a few productions that you might never have seen in person. Our goal was to reignite live music and get artists on stage, technicians behind the soundboard and our patrons on their feet listening to extraordinary talent in extraordinary times.

Terms and Conditions

Membership to the Phoenix Sessions is $20 per month (automatically recurring) and you select the productions you wish to enjoy. Though membership renews automatically, patrons must validate their membership number every month to receive an access code for each new set of productions by email. This process is not automatic. Patrons will receive their first access code immediately upon registration. An access code is only good for one calendar month. Validation instructions are contained in the Membership tab on this page, in our weekly newsletter and in the monthly rollover announcement sent by the Aeolian Box Office. We do not have a multi-viewer pass. If you plan to safely watch with friends or family, please consider donating to further offset the costs associated with these productions. Tickets to individual productions are not available. If you do not intend to subscribe for longer than one month, refunds will not be provided to patrons who forget to cancel their membership or who have not read the terms and conditions: membership renewal is automatic every 30 days. This information is noted on every ticketing page, on event pages and marketing, on event posters and in our weekly newsletter. It is important to read information carefully before joining so as to not misunderstand how membership works. Juno nominated artist Dayna Manning exemplifies the very best that Canadian Folk music can be.  Her cool clear voice along with her insightful songs represent a history of Canadian musical art that goes back to the early ’60s and sounds just as vital today.  A modern renaissance artist, Dayna recently produced Trent Severn’s third album “Portage”, designed the Stratford Festival’s best-selling 60th-anniversary t-shirt, and was just nominated for the 2021 Canadian Folk Music  Awards "Producer of the Year" for her latest solo album “Morning Light”.  She recently penned her first book, a chronological memoir through song, “Many Moons: A Songwriter’s Memoir” released by Blue Moon Publishers with a foreword by Chris Hadfield.  In 2016 Dayna founded the “Folk Army”, a private music instruction academy in Stratford Ontario.  The Folk Army’s mission is to empower young girls to make a positive change in their communities through leadership, creativity, thoughtful performance, and positive self-esteem.  She has just recently finished producing Folk Army alumni Hannah Thomas’s full-length debut album, “Christmas Don’t Be Late” with an entirely local cast of fabulous Stratford musicians.

"About six years ago I decided to focus my career investments in what was around me here in my hometown of Stratford, Ontario,” Manning explains.  She began focusing entirely on telling localized stories and sought to deepen connections with artists who could collaborate locally.  “Everyone needs to support an eco-friendly economy now and in the future.  I believe in supporting the community I love and I am lucky they support me in return.“  Manning adds, “sometimes artists have to dig deep to find beauty and sometimes it is just all around you”, says Manning,  “I enjoy creating with artists of all skill levels and ages, and with Folk Army, I wanted to teach the next generation how to be a thoughtful, community-oriented, sustainable artist with many skills."

Peter is an old soul – Gina is a young spirit at heart, so they never had to compromise – they just balance each other. They first worked together in an 18 piece big band –  both love all kinds of music, love to share and enjoy teaching.  They decided to adopt each other and spend a lot of time rehearsing and experimenting with new tunes and styles, swapping cds, drinking really good coffee and just being goofy. Peter is a Kenora boy whose jazz inspired Radiohead, Sting and Miles show sold out Aeolian Hall.  He always has a new project on the go including stage work like playing for Jesus Christ Superstar and Funhome in between all his gig work with Julia Haggarty and his funk band project.  Gina’s made music everywhere-everything from singing standards with a jazz quartet in Hamburg, playing electro violin in a a bunch of rock bands and Great Gigging it with a Pink Floyd Tribute band.

Gina Farrugia is a jazz musician and educator from Southwestern Ontario who studied voice, violin and arts admin at the University of Waterloo and started her career in Hamburg, Germany. She regularly performs with Peter Karle and with jazz and big bands, country bands, church gigs and contemporary multidisciplinary projects. She has performed on a train, on the roof of a car, a Christmas parade float, a riverboat and on a firetruck. She loves when music genre lines are blurred and likes nothing better than talking shop with fellow musicians and getting the stories first hand from the masters.

Armed with an eclectic taste in music and the experience to match, Peter Karle is excited to bring his young talent and energy to the Prime Time Big Band.

Throughout his undergraduate degree in the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, Peter actively sought out diverse musical projects to hone his craft as a musician. Along with private classical guitar with Robert Kubica, Peter served as Guitarist and Rhythm Section Leader with the Western University Jazz Ensemble.

Peter has also sought out conducting opportunities outside of the faculty to continue his spirit for giving music. Peter served at the 2014-2015 Western Chamber Ensemble (orchestra division) as director under the tutelage of conductor Alain Trudel. He also served separately as Producer/Music Director/Conductor for Theatre Western's Xanadu (2013) and Rent (2014) and Into The Woods (2015).

Peter is currently performing as a leader/sideman and session player with various styles of groups around London Ontario. He also takes great pride in being a musical mentor, both as a private teacher and as an instructor at London's Academy of Music.

Peter has produced a number of productions on the Aeolian stage including a tribute to Miles David, the Police, and David Bowie.

2018 marked the 15th anniversary of Great Lake Swimmers. Over seven albums, multiple EPs, live broadcasts and reissues, the Toronto-based project led by singer-songwriter Tony Dekker has established itself as a beloved indie folk act in Canada and beyond. The CBC has called them “a national treasure” with a sound that is at once familiar and distinct, using the tools of folk music as the starting point to delve deeper.

The latest release, “The Waves, The Wake” branches out to include new sounds such as harp, lute, pipe organ, woodwinds, congas and marimbas, alongside the more familiar flecks and chimes of the banjo, piano, and 12-string electric guitar. A scaled back, solo acoustic version was also released in 2019.

Great Lake Swimmers have been nominated twice for Juno Awards, have been shortlisted for the prestigious Polaris Prize, and won a Canadian Indie Award for Favourite Folk/Roots Artist/Group. They have shared the stage as support for such

musical luminaries as Robert Plant, Feist, Daniel Lanois, and Calexico, and have appeared as headliners at many of Canada’s major folk music festivals.

SARINA HAGGARTY AND CONNOR MORAND

Singer-songwriters Sarina Haggarty and Connor Morand have performed to sold out audiences at the Aeolian. Sharing the stage, sharing their stories, and sharing their individual hits, this collaboration promises to deliver pop, rock, folk and roots through the eyes of emerging musicians on the national scene. From current hits to back catalogue, Sarina and Connor will have you on your feet!

Sarina Haggarty is an inspirational figure for many. With the wide amount of support and fans, Sarina has performed in sold out venues in her hometown such as London Music Hall and Aeolian Hall. Successfully selling out London Ontario’s top venues, Sarina has released two EP’s in the past two years “Missing Pieces” in 2016 and her new EP “Compass” in 2018. Sarina’s music branches out into every genre possible. She has had encounters with artists such as Sarah Smith, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Lennon & Maisy, Kim Churchill, George Fox, Tyler Shaw, Shawn Mendes and Mark Schulman. 

As Sarina was a Make-A-Wish patient, and had the opportunity to perform an original song at Quicken Loans Arena during a sold out Shawn Mendes concert in Cleveland. Her wish became an aspiration worldwide and as Make-A-Wish celebrates their 40th anniversary, a PSA was released and featured her soulful voice throughout the video. 

Being involved with London Music Office, FCLMA, (Jack Richardson Music Awards - Winning Fan Favourite 2018), Western Fair, Bethany’s Hope Foundation, London Arts Council, London Celebrates Canada, Epilepsy Support SWO, LHSC, she always uses her music ability to raise money for various charities in any way possible. Sarina frequently gets interviewed on National Radio stations and has had many articles written on her journey. Radio stations such as Country 104, CFPL 980, 103.1 Fresh Fm, Fm 96.7, Jack Fm, CBC London, Easy 101 and CHYM 96.7. Starting local, she then ended up live on air with Niall Boland on Classic Hits 94-105FM in Dublin, Ireland. She has shared her journey with companies such as CTV, London Health Science Centre, CBC, CORUS and Rogers.

As an MIA graduate, Sarina recently released 2 singles produced by Moe Berg and engineered by Rob Nation called Want You so Bad and Meant to Be. Her music has gained attention from many in the music industry for her soulful songs that are beyond her years. She is looking forward to releasing her third EP in 2020, recorded in EMAC Recording Studios in London, Ontario.

In many ways, Connor Morand has broken his own barriers throughout his musical journey. Originally born in London, Ontario, Morand developed an appreciation for all musical genres very quickly. Beginning as a folk artist, he searched to find his own artistic identity while still maintaining his love of diversity.

Enter Morand’s 2017 release of ‘Everything Is Gold / Believe’, a double-single project showcasing his ability to transcend into the alternative pop realm. It was promoted with a stunning around-the-world music video for the lead singles, “Everything Is Gold”, spanning 60 locations and four continents over six months of filming. This caught the attention of multiple TV and radio networks across Canada, including MuchMusic, CBC, CTV and Global News.

While many suggest that Morand continue to ride on the success of that release, he is more interested in continual craft development, the mark of a true artist. His newest single, “94 Corolla”, is a hip-hop infused pop track that explores the idea of life’s biggest moments happening in familiar, average spaces. Its infectious melody and vibrant production make for an impressive introduction to his new era of music.

Morand continues to write and produce new music, and stands by his own unique form of artistry: uncompromising, experimental, and passionate. Create something with purpose, and people will listen.

AARON ALLEN

Country singer-songwriter and tattoo artist Aaron Allen is back on the Aeolian Stage performing his favourites as well as cuts from his emotionally charged EP; Highway Mile released in April 2020.. Remaining true to his signature sound that fans have come to love, Allen brings his raw and honest song writing to the album, while marking Allen’s 10th studio release. “I wanted to make something that stood up over time,” said Allen on the new EP. “Highway Mile is really about the stories from my real-life experiences - I just tried to be transparent with the hope that maybe my story would connect with others. I hope we’ve done that with this new record.” Quickly becoming Allen’s fastest-growing single, the new releases’ title track — “Highway Mile” — was added to 7 playlists on Apple Music out of the gate, gaining almost 200,000 streams in its first month.  Set to surpass the previously released “Where Music Comes From,” “Highway Mile” demonstrates Allen’s dedication to creating deeply personal stories through music. Aaron’s story will sound familiar to many.  Faced with some serious personal challenges as he entered his teenage years, country music became his lifeline and songwriting the outlet for his pain and frustration.  Allen made a promise to himself that he would make country music his career, even though – thanks to his wife – tattooing eventually helped pay the bills. “All I had was my voice and a guitar so country music was really the only way to go for me,” Allen says.  “I’ve always loved how simple and direct great country songs are.  They go straight to the heart and that’s what I’ve always tried to achieve with songs I write. I feel like my favourite artists are speaking specifically to me and I hope people have that feeling when they hear my songs.” Keeping the momentum going Aaron released his new EP Highway Mile on April 3rd, 2020 produced by Jeff Dalziel.
