Yes, he's been willing to step back into the background as others take the limelight, but that shouldn't diminish his contribution, which ripples throughout practically every style and sound of the modern era. Whatever you're listening to – whether it be acoustic or electronic, roots or futurist, underground or pop – if you listen closely you'll hear traces of the sonic signatures of Daniel Lanois. And what's more he's still experimenting as eagerly as he ever has. At a point when most musicians with anything resembling his level of success would be resting on their laurels and playing on old successes, he still has more hunger for the new than people a third his age, and as a result is creating music as beautiful and new as ever before.

A modern indie folk trio from Newfoundland, The Once have collected a trio of Canadian Folk Music Awards, numerous ECMA awards, and was named Artist of the Year by the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council. They have earned not one, but two JUNO nominations for Roots Album of the Year and continue to take their music around the world.

With the release of 2024’s Out Here, The Once have delivered a thoughtful and playful assembly of songs mingling their musical roots from Newfoundland along with folk, bluegrass, country, Americana, and modern indie rock. Members Geraldine Hollett, Andrew Dale, and Phil Churchill have created a sound representative of their home province of Newfoundland while pushing the boundaries on the great Canadian songbook with their soothing vocal harmony and acoustically rich core.

Lyrically, The Once’s newest collection of songs encompass an arresting sense of loss with the belief that the good can be found in all people, and a desire to bring it out here for everyone to enjoy. A ray of hope in a confusing time. A port in a storm. A provocation with a grin.

This material is soaked with the poetic charm and sunny sadness of the trio’s collective disposition. Written across Newfoundland and recorded in the band’s GingerBeard House studio the band took their time creating this record. “Sometimes music takes a while to flow”, Geraldine Hollett explains. “If you don’t panic and instead surround yourself with people who love you that you can trust, magic can happen.”

Moulettes are one of UK's most unique touring bands and are steadily being singled out from the wave of apparent Bjork & Kate Bush influenced Indie/alt Folk bands that have arisen this decade. They Recorded their third studio album 'Constellations' (Navigator Records) in studios, churches, tunnels, artisan workshops and bedrooms around Brighton and released it in the UK in 2014 and in Germany Feb 2015. It is their most complete and ambitious album to date and it testifies to their extraordinary ability to draw together such a varied ensemble that features legends Arthur Brown (God of Hellfire) and Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed, Bowie), as well as contemporaries Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets), The Unthanks, Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls) and a host of Brighton regular players from Sweden, Germany, Greece, Holland, South Africa, Australia, Scotland, Bosnia.

Renowned for their breathtaking live shows it is clear that few bands have the creative range and work ethic of Moulettes. With a brave approach to production and arrangement Moulettes look for peculiar ways of blending acoustic and electric instruments; For example, by putting Bassoons and stringed instruments through pedals and valve amps. They weave several genres with Cello, Violins, Guitars, Drums, Bassoon, Double bass, brass and synths into an incomparable pop/rock/folk Universe. Exercising both delicacy and fierceness, female Songwriter and Cellist Hannah Miller creates an otherworldly framework in which fantastical characters move bewteen the realms of Nature, Magic and Science. The band also contains a mix of self taught and classically trained multi-instrumentalists and singers who will often play more than one instrument per song and even at the same time. All members have shared the stage and studio with well known artists in Folk, Prog, pop and Rock, including Mick Jagger, Nick Cave, Seasick Steve, Bonobo, Gentle Giant, Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Bellowhead, The Levellers and many more.

Original members Hannah Miller, Ruth Skipper, Ted Dwane(Mumford and Sons), Rob Skipper (Previously of The Holloways) and Ollie Austin started playing together at school in Glastonbury and Winchester from 2002. Their initial period as teens/early twenties was spent promoting their residency nights 'The Den Of Iniquity' in the renowned 12 bar club on Tin Pan Alley, London. They took these nights to Manchester, Southampton and Brighton with the aim of bringing many indie bands and Folk influenced bands together. It was at these events that Seasick Steve's UK Label/Management saw the band perform and offered to release some of their repertoire. Since their Eponymous release in 2010 which was followed by The Bear's Revenge in 2012, Moulettes have constantly been on the road with varying sized ensembles from a 3piece to a full chamber orchestra. A popular festival band, they have played events as varied as Cropredy/End of the Road/Glastonbury (Avalon)/Bestival/ and Cambridge Folk. Hannah, Ruth, Ollie and Jim Mortimore continue their busy gig schedule around the world with many guests joining them on their way. From portraying Elvis Presley in Walk the Line and garnering a cult following as musician Chris Keller on the CW hit TV show One Tree Hill, to writing and touring with the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Joe Cocker, Tyler Hilton has enjoyed an award-winning career spanning music, film and television.

Born and raised in California, Tyler grew up in a family of talented musicians who had played for acts like Fleetwood Mac, George Harrison and Donovan. Performing with his family from an early age, Hilton became serious about songwriting at 14. At 15, he called into L.A.’s KLOS radio station to win concert tickets and ended up wowing the hosts with an on-air performance. The station made him a regular guest and helped launch his debut record, which caught the ear of Warner Bros. Records, who signed him to record his second album The Tracks of Tyler Hilton, earning him two Top 40 singles.

Tyler then landed the dream gig of portraying Elvis in Golden Globe-winning Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, opposite Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix. “I’d never done any kind of professional acting, but got quite the education from those two. They were pros, and so patient.” Two of his recordings featured on the film’s Grammy-winning soundtrack and his portrayal of the late legend helped launch an acting career which has since seen him star alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the 2007 film Charlie Bartlett and opposite Halle Berry in CBS series Extant.

However, it was Tyler’s musical role in One Tree Hill that helped build the devoted, global fan base he has today. The series heavily featured songs from his third album, 2012’s Forget the Storm, which reached #2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart. Tyler also featured on the show’s soundtracks with fan favorites like “When the Stars Go Blue” and “Missing You.” “I played the worst kind of person on the show, and still the fans totally took me in and connected with my music. It was an incredible fan base to be a part of!”

Following 2014’s Indian Summer, Tyler released his proudest body of work yet, 2019’s City on Fire, featuring a collaboration with Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley (an ex-roommate). The album, rooted in Hilton’s signature cinematic folk-rock stylings, was featured heavily in film and TV including Showtime’s Shameless. The star-studded video for the record’s gritty lead single, “City on Fire,” was directed by Tyler’s wife, Megan Park, an award-winning director, writer and actress. A video for the album’s second single, “When I See You, I See Home,” features footage of the couple’s 2015 nuptials and their baby daughter, Winnie, born in 2019.

Alongside working on his retro-inspired 6th studio album (expected Spring 2021) which will include a dark take on Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally” – released in early 2020, following the singer’s death – Tyler and longtime collaborator Jaco Caraco (Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson) have been writing and producing new music for Billy Ray Cyrus’ soon-to-be released follow up to 2019’s record-shattering “Old Town Road.”

Hilton has been featured everywhere from Rolling Stone and People’s “50 Most Beautiful People,” to The Tonight Show and TRL. Additionally, he co-starred in a #1 MTV music video with Taylor Swift, a longtime fan, for her song, “Teardrops Drops on My Guitar,” which was nominated for an MTV Music Video Award. Tyler and Megan also starred in the #1 CMT music video for Gloriana’s “Kissed You Goodnight.”

Tyler currently lives in Los Angeles and Ontario, Canada.

It follows a prolonged period of collective anxiety. Recorded in different locales—and with a variety of musicians—a theme of questioning runs throughout. Even before the world turned upside down, Dekker felt mired in uncertainty: from the climate crisis to the ever-changing political landscape. The “uncertain country” chosen as the album’s theme is not a specific place. Rather, it’s a territory we, as humans, inhabit in the 21st century — a world that, more often than not, is confusing, unfamiliar and unsettling.

“Moonlight, Stay Above” epitomizes what Great Lake Swimmers represents. A 10-voice strong women’s choir (Niagara's Minuscule) lifts the lonely-sounding and wistful song up. As with that addition, the band on each album is fluid and always evolving.

Great Lake Swimmers were shortlisted for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize and nominated twice for Canada’s Juno Awards, with the CBC calling them “a national treasure.”

Julian Taylor is a Toronto-based, award-winning independent singer-songwriter, radio host, and label owner. Over 20-plus years as the leader of Staggered Crossing, Julian Taylor Band, and his solo work, Julian established himself as one of Canada’s great troubadours. He has earned three JUNO nominations, a pair of Canadian Folk Music Awards, five Native American Music Award nominations, and a nomination for the Polaris Music Prize.

On their fifth studio album, From Nowhere, Mo Kenney embraces the textures of ambiguity and the rich blur of being, failing, and becoming. As they shift through lush arrangements that touch on dreamy folk, sparse alt-country, and warm, hazed-out lo-fi pop, everything is up for interpretation and nothing is fixed. In their lyrics, Kenney opts instead to defy definition, making room for non-linear and fragmentary sentiments that challenge their own feelings about personal growth, acknowledge the slippery and shadowy nature of memory, and build love songs that conjure the bonds of friendship just as much as they hint at romance. 

They evade easiness right from the start in the glowing chorus of opening track "Bad Times," admitting, over sparse piano and despite 4 years of sobriety: "I know it ain't right, but I miss the bad times sometimes." 

"I sort of thought that getting sober was going to fix all my problems with relationships, and then I would just be fine," Kenney laughs. "Drinking was causing all the issues I was having, but it was just the tip of the iceberg; quitting made all my problems more clear but didn't resolve any of them."

Kenney's subsequent investigations into the root causes of their interpersonal dramas obscured nearly as much as they revealed, encouraging acceptance but also emphasizing the frequently frustrating uncertainty and temporality of things. From Nowhere occupies that liminal and trepidatious time when one is compelled to move but unsure where they might be headed. The driving "Evening Dream" has all the hallmarks of a post-summer come-down as Kenney reminisces about the nebulous feelings of flings: "Bathing in the pale green light, no thought of what goes on outside," they sing. "No thought of what it all might mean, it doesn’t have to meet a thing." On the darker sounding "Signs of Life," they address an unbearable and obscure fissure; with the title track, they recall a loss of innocence in idyllic rural Nova Scotia, mixing sun-kissed organ with cryptic, unsettling choruses. 

With the stark and devastating pairing of "Honey Come Home" and "Self Doubt," Kenney makes it clear that there's no glory or revelation in sitting with your feelings. While the former distills the loneliness and alienation of a partner's absence, the latter finds Kenney struggling with the crippling second-guessing that can accompany certain acute kinds of clarity as they barely raise their voice above a whisper in what sounds like the saddest honky-tonk on Earth. Through the hazy atmospheres of "That's Not Me," they conjure a slow motion crawl through a dim club and question their identity. And the similarly unhurried "With You" delivers a crushing post-mortem about a relationship that, despite its sweetness, just didn't work. 

From Nowhere's intimate subject matter was handled with deft hands by some of Keney's nearest and dearest collaborators—Joel Plaskett, Rose Cousins, Victoria Cameron, Siobhan Martin, and Jordan Murphy—and recorded, mixed, and engineered by Thomas Stajcer at Plaskett's Fang Studios in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. 

In contrast to its heavy predecessors, the airy "Love You Better" offers a featherweight finale to From Nowhere; in earthy reverie, Kenney acknowledges their past failures and that they're not always going to get it right, but resolves to do the only thing they can: keep trying. "Staring at the ceiling, trying to find the meaning," they sing over eddying acoustic guitar. "Put it all together; I will love you better."

BEN CAPLAN is a Canadian singer-songwriter and entertainer known for his energetic live shows and award-winning studio recordings. Perpetually on tour since 2011, Ben has played nearly 2000 concerts in 28 countries in that time. His 2018 project Old Stock was both an album and a highly-acclaimed musical theatre production which has toured the world since 2017, including a 7-week Off-Broadway run which garnered 6 Drama Desk Award nominations, a NYTimes Critic’s Pick, and numerous other international accolades.

His newest project, Hold On!,  is a diverse cycle of songs with a full new band of collaborators. Blending old world folk traditions with electronic instruments and sound design, Ben Caplan and the band have created a futuristic nostalgia with one foot in the past and the other stretched across the abyss of the end of the world. The show, with its energetic frenzy and moments of unexpected tenderness, lives somewhere in the space between theatre and music. It’s a kind of cabaret to mourn and celebrate the end of the world.
