The Aeolian in cooperation with Céline Peterson proudly presents a once in a lifetime evening celebrating the music of Oscar Peterson. JUNO Award-winning pianist Robi Botos will be at the piano and joined by veteran members of the Oscar Peterson Quartet, Dave Young on bass and special guest Ulf Wakenius on guitar. Rounding out the quartet is JUNO Award-winning drummer, Jim Doxas. This is the first time these four artists will come together to perform material written and made famous by OP and is their only show in the London area. We hope you will join us!

On March 25th at 7 p.m., The Aeolian presented the second night of a benefit concert in support of refugees and others trapped by the war in Ukraine.  The retrospective includes highlights of the jazz and classical performances.

Juno Award nominated trumpeter Alexis Baro was born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba. Classically trained, he took up the trumpet at the age of age 8 and completed his musical education receiving a teaching certification at the prestigious Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory in Havana.

While in school he became a member of the Buena Vista Social Club super star Omara Portuondo's band, and later at the age of 19 played lead trumpet for the National Radio and Television Orchestra. After moving to Toronto, Canada in 2001, he was discovered by iconic Canadian jazz drummer Archie Alleyne where he flourished as a writer and performer for eight years as a member of the Canadian award winning 'hard-bop" band Kollage. As a band member he was nominated for “Best Jazz Trumpeter” by the Canadian National Jazz Awards in the years 2006, 2007, and 2008. Baro has participated in more than 60 albums and can be heard as a feature solist on some of the most transcendent Latin albums made in Canada such as Hilario Duran’s Grammy Award nominated album “From The Heart”. He has performed with such artists as Nikky Yanofsky, David Foster, Michael Bubble, Paul Anca, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Paquito d' Rivera, Jimmy Bosch, Miguel Zenon, Hilario Duran, Robi Botos, Jesus Alemaney & Cubanismo, David Virelles, Andrea Boccelli, Gino Vanelli, Esthero, David Rudder, Juan de Marco & The Afro-Cuban All Stars, and Horacio "el negro" Hernandez. Highlights in his solo career include opening for Herbie Hancock, and tours of South America and the West Indies. He’s released six albums as a solo artist “Havana Banana”, “From the Other Side”, “Blue Skin”, “Guilty Pleasure” which won a Gold Medal “Global Music Award” in the jazz category in 2015, "Sugar Rush" his 2016 release featuring a collection of new original Afro Cuban jazz compositions. His latest recording "Sandstorm" has received critical acclaim receiving a 2019 Juno Award nomination (the Canadian equal of a Grammy Award) for "Best Jazz Album: Solo Artist" category.

Molly Johnson's voice evokes the aura of dark smoky nightclubs of a bygone era. It speaks to an emotional depth that few vocalists in any genre ever reach. Like the woman behind it, it is a voice filled with humor, joy, surprise, sassiness, and of course, love.

Molly's highly anticipated new album "Meaning To TellYa" was released in Spring . 2018. Produced by multiple GRAMMY Award-winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Madeleine Peyroux, Meldoy Gardot, Norah Jones); it is more than ajazz record. It's funk, it's soul, it's groove, played by some of Canada's best musicians. Says Moll y: "Working with Larry was magic. When it was finally my turn, I jumped at the opportunity. This is a record I have been wanting to make for years. I can't wait to share it with everyone!" Says Larry: "Molly has a voice that is who she is as a person. Molly's voice has the kind of character that when you hear it, you hear who she is and you hear her history. You hear what she's done and where she has been and it's what I'm drawn to in a voice.”

A highly respected philanthropist and Officer to the Order of Canada, she has raised millions of dollars for people living with HIV/AIDS with her own Kumbaya Foundation and many other charitable organizations that she supports. Molly also hosted a weekend morning program on CBC Radio 2 for five years. In 2016, Molly launched the Kensington Market Jazz Festival, which fills the colorful and vibrant area performing 150+ shows over one weekend in September to over 5000 enthusiastic music fans.

Billy Newton-Davis grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and as a teenager he was one of two lead singers in a local soul band called “The Illusions”.

He received his  Bachelor Of Fine Arts Degree from Ohio University and upon graduation moved to New York to pursue his dreams on Broadway. He appeared in several Broadway shows including “Bubblin Brown Sugar”, “Eubie”, “Got Tu Go Disco”, and “Stop The World”, starring Sammy Davis Jr. His debut singing gig, in 1973, was as a backing vocalist to Gloria Gaynor, and in 1989 he released “Can’t Live with You, Can’t Live Without You,” a duet with Céline Dion.

A formidable presence in the Canadian music industry, Billy received Junos for best R&B/soul recording for his first two albums "Love Is a Contact Sport" (1986) and "Spellbound" (1989), and more recently a Juno for best dance recording of the year for his work with deadmau5 on “All U Ever Want.” Billy is featured on releases by The Boomtang Boys, Nino Anthony, and MelleeFresh. From 1991-93, he was a member of Canadian super singing group, The Nylons.

In Toronto, Billy has become a favourite performer for philanthropic and corporate events, and regularly appears in the city's best live venues performing jazz, gospel and R&B.  For decades, Billy has been lending his voice as an activist for HIV/AIDS awareness and the ongoing fight for equality.

Billy's latest EP, released in 2020 is a jazzy, bluesy, gospelicious offering recorded live-off-the-floor and features some of his favourite classics from the great American songbook

Rick has been working as an independent music & theatre professional in various capacities since proudly graduating with his BFA from the University of Windsor’s, School of Dramatic Art. Rick received his Masters degree from UWO's, Don Wright Faculty of Music in Literature & Performance with a focus in Music Theatre. He is a member in good standing of Canadian Actor’s Equity Association (CAEA). In 2020 Rick was nominated 2020 Jazz Vocalist of this year - the same award he  received in 2019 (Jazz Vocalist of the Year Award) through the Forest City London Music Awards (FCLMA). Several projects he's led have received Brickenden Awards - Vigil, Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens & The Secret Garden. Fringe Festival Awards include JUDY: Stonewalled!, Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens. He is also a proud LAC Community Investment Grant Investment recipient. He has worked as an artistic director, producer, director, actor, singer, voice teacher/coach, acting teacher/coach & workshop leader. Scroll down for full list of awards below...

He served as Artistic Director at The Port Stanley Festival Theatre in Port Stanley, ON, and at The Bluewater Summer Playhouse in Kincardine, ON. Rick created the professionally engaging (CAEA) theatre company in London, ON, a missing link theatre company (amltc). In its two seasons amltc staged JUDY: Stonewalled! (Outstanding Cast Award - London Fringe 2014), Billy Bishop Goes To War, A Really RETRO Christmas Special - 2014, 2013 & 2012, VIGIL (2013 Brickenden Award Winner - Outstanding Comedy & Actress), The World Premiere Production of  Norm Foster's The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby & A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.

Rick is the Artistic Director of LINK theatre which began in December of 2015 with a really Retro CROONER Christmas. The show has become an annual production. In 2019 the show toured the Province of Ontario. The Crooners visited Huron Country Playhouse, Drayton Festival Theatre, Meaford Performing Arts, to name a few… In 2020, due to Covid, they had only two live performances - December 5th and 12th at Paradigm Spirits at 100 Kellogg Lane – a stripped down version of the show, An Intimate Crooner Christmas (Check out LINK theatre's page for information - www.linktheatre.ca). In 2017 LINK staged the OUTRAGEOUS musical comedy Saucy Jack & The Space Vixens. Due to being wildly popular with audiences, it was remounted in 2018... Both productions were presented in The TABU Lounge at Jack's on Richmond Street in London.

In the past several years Rick has been very involved in many youth mentorship initiatives at the Grand Theatre in London. For 10 years Rick worked as Vocal/Singing Coach on The Highschool Project; Les Miserables (2016), Hello Dolly, The Addams Family: A New Musical, Legally Blonde, My Fair Lady, Footloose, Anything Goes, Grease, The Pirates of Penzance & Les Miserables (2007). As well as ongoing work with The Grand Academy as the acting coach & voice through Broadway Songs instructor.

For the past several years now, Rick has been adjudicating with the RISE 2 FAME Youth Talent Search with contestants from across Southwestern Ontario. He has taught acting at both Fanshawe College in the Acting Program as well as UWO's Continuing Studies and the Don Wright Faculty of Music Master's Program.

ROBI BOTOS has been hailed as one of the most diverse multi-instrumentalists of this generation. From the hard-bop style of Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, to the swing of Oscar Peterson and the heartfelt melodic expression of Mulgrew Miller and Cedar Walton, Robi has managed to master the technique of his idols, all while showcasing his musical expressions in a voice that is purely his own. While Robi is known for being a strong player in the traditional jazz and funk fields, he always incorporates an element of the music he grew up listening to into his playing. Says organist, trumpeter and pianist Joey Defrancesco: “Robi is one of the most swingin’, soulful, funky, world class players I’ve ever heard, and he has a technique like you can’t believe. Definitely one of my very favorite players!!!”

Born of Romani descent in Hungary, Robi taught himself first to play drums as a young child, and got his first taste of being a professional musician working throughout Budapest. When he turned 20, Robi decided to move his wife and children to Canada to further pursue the career he was born for. Now 20 years later, Robi has solidified himself as one of the most sought-after pianists in the country, and holds 2 JUNO Awards, as well as countless global prizes including the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) Award, and 2 nominations in the Canadian Screen Awards.

In 2018, Robi released a brand-new record that pays homage to his Hungarian upbringing, the early days of his career, and the music that he has dedicated his life to. “OLD SOUL” sees Robi not only venturing into a number of different genres (jazz, funk, soul, gospel and more!), but he also plays on a number of different instruments including the Harpejji. Robi is joined by some familiar faces such as longtime collaborators Mike Downeson bass and Larnell Lewison drums, as well as Seamus Blake on saxophone. Robi’s ability as a composer is (once again) highlighted on this record with a majority of the tracks being his original material. “Old Soul” pays tribute to his homeland as he takes you down memory lane with visions of his childhood neighbourhood and through some of his favourite spots in his hometown. This record makes you feel like you have a personal connection with one of the most diverse and eclectic artists of our time. Mando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself – through no actual fault of his own – at the epicentre of Canada’s burgeoning acoustic/roots music scene. He didn’t invent it – but he's certainly been a contributor, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking Tree String Quartet, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and, more recently, his namesake Trio. That’s not to mention the fact that this prolific, robust performer – comfortable on mandolin, fiddle, guitar, mandola and mandocello – composes, produces, arranges, writes and teaches across multiple genres, including a popular collision of folk, jazz, bluegrass, celtic, and classical.

As Collins gathers up innumerable JUNO nominations (5) and Canadian Folk Music Awards (7) won by his various ensembles, he’s zeroing in on the work he does with Trio-mates:  fellow string guru Mike Mezzatesta, whose versatility shines through on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and mandola, and in-the-pocket James McEleney holding it down on the bass, mandocello and vocals. Showcasing a dizzying number of styles and instruments on stage, Collins and Co. appear to live by the old adage, “idle hands are the devil’s workshop”, likely keeping them just ahead of his grasp. Bending and blending genres, these musical shape shifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of Béla Fleck and Newgrass invader, David Grisman.

Evoking influences of early Sarah Vaughan and the powerhouse 60's soul singers, Hilary showcases her range through the performance of beloved jazz standards and the re-imagination of popular music. The time Hilary spent studying Jazz at the University of Toronto under Canadian greats Phil Nimmons, Alex Dean and Kirk MacDonald and vocalist Heather Bambrick instilled a great respect and love for the genre. Hilary credits performance opportunities with members of the renowned New York Voices, Oscar Peterson and Peter Appleyard as major influences on her performance. Although Hilary works by day in radio broadcasting, by night her soul and spirit remain dedicated to the love of music.

\Chris Norley is a jazz guitarist, vocalist, teacher, and composer based in London, Ontario, Canada and an active member of the regional jazz scene. He performed at Ed Bickert at 80 – A Jazz Celebration in the Glenn Gould Studio among a veritable who’s who of Canadian jazz guitarists: Oliver Gannon, Jake Langley, Lorne Lofsky, David Occhipinti, Michael Occhipinti, Ted Quinlan, and Reg Schwager. The concert was recorded and broadcast on CBC Canada Live. Chris has performed in productions at London’s Grand Theatre, Drayton, Huron Country Playhouse, and Upper Canada Playhouse theatres. He is the guitarist for "5PGB", works with vocalist Jen Thorpe, trombonist Rob Stone, pianist Charlie Rallo, and also performs a wide variety of pop music ("Bob's Yer Funkle"), and folk as a freelance musician as well as a solo, guitar and vocal, act.\

From classical to jazz, rock to country, and bluegrass to folk, the Sessions aim to bring music back into your home and heart. Interested in one show only? Trust us: you'll like what you see. Our goal was to reignite live music and get artists on stage, technicians behind the soundboard and our patrons on their feet listening to extraordinary talent in extraordinary times.

We do not have a multi-viewer pass. If you plan to safely watch with friends or family, please consider donating to further offset the costs associatedwith these productions. Tickets to individual productions are not available. Upon registration and after monthly validation, you will receive a confirmation email including a link that youx will use each time you wish to view aperformance.
