Based in London Ontario, Canadian guitarist Andrew Cloutier has been making music professionally since the early 2000s. He studied at Western University in London, with a focus on music theory, composition, and classical guitar performance.

He has received awards and recognitions from the Jack Richardson London music awards, the OMFA provincial music festival, and Western University. He has also participated in masterclasses with world renowned guitarists and composers, including Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, the Assad Brothers, and David Russell.

As a performer, his musical interests include the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, music from South America, and works by contemporary composers. In addition, he is an instructor at the London Academy of Music, and the music director at Strathroy United Church in Strathroy Ontario.

According to the Yuchi Indian Tribe there is a powerful legend of the Tanasi River or “Singing River” in Tennessee. Inside the waterway lives a woman who sings songs to protect those who hear her. Inspired by this mythical folklore, Dione Taylor took an insightful road trip to Nashville Tennessee and found inspiration for her vivid new album, Spirits in the Water. This musical odyssey explores the deep sacred, healing journey back to the self.

“Legendary stories and family history travel through us, flow into the waters and down the bloodline,” explains the Regina, Saskatchewan born singer who first made a name for herself as one of this country’s most talented singer/songwriters, “If the water speaks, and if we are still and listen then what fascinating stories do we hear? Perhaps, tales of eternal happiness, brutal hardship, necessary murder, unspeakable love and beautiful pain are buried in the muddy waters.”

Continuing on with her unmistakable ‘Prairie Blues’ sound, Dione’s music is a mixture of Roots, Blues and Americana. She brings us on an intriguing and magical, thematic journey through song with stories of Mystical Truths (“Water”), Race Inequality, (“Working”), Hiraeth or Homesickness (“Where I Belong”), Women’s Rights (“Down the Bloodline”), Heartbreak (“One More Shot”), Omnipresent Energy (“Spirit”), Injustice (“How Many Times”), Nigredo or Transformation (“Darkness”), Freedom (“Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around”) and Perseverance (“Running”). Dione’s sharply honed song writing chops shine through on original songs featuring both intellectual depth and emotional eloquence. This diversity of tones and tempos on Spirits in The Water ensures that the listener’s attention never wavers through the album.

A key creative collaborator on Spirits In The Water is Joel Schwartz , who produced and co-wrote much the album with Taylor, and made potent instrumental contributions on guitar and banjo. “I met Joel around five years ago, when he started playing in my band, the Backsliderz,” Dione recalls. “Then we started writing and developing a sound together that we have been running with ever since.

Dione’s long-time creative collaborator Sandy Mamane produced and co-wrote two songs with Taylor for the album. Other noted songwriters contributing in that role here are James Bryan (Philosopher Kings, Prozzak), Sean Pinchin, and Liz Tansey.

Music has always been an important and integral part of Dione Taylor’s life. A pastor’s daughter, she was born and raised in a family she describes as “really connected to the gift of song. My whole family sings and plays instruments in church,” praises Ms. Taylor, who began playing the organ at age four and by ten was the music director and organist at The Shiloh Assembly Church (Apostolic) in Regina.

Having first burst onto the music scene with her Juno nominated debut album “Open Your Eyes”, Taylor’s career trajectory has been truly remarkable. With performances at festivals and concert theatres across the United States, Canada and Asia for audiences that have included the President of the United States and Queen Elizabeth II, Taylor has made a worthy name for herself as one of this country’s most talented musicians and songstresses. Taylor was nominated for a Gemini Award for her rendition of Oscar Peterson’s “Hymn to Freedom,” which she performed alongside Oliver Jones at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala. Taylor is also the recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award Mentorship Program. With performances at Folk, Blues, Jazz and Rock Festivals across North America, Dione is a seasoned and electrifying performer who constantly energizes her audiences. She has also become a familiar face at music conferences like Folk Alliance International, Folk Music Canada, Folk Music Ontario, Contact East, Women’s Blues Revue and the Blues Summit.

Rick Taylor made his first major appearance as a singer, songwriter and guitarist at the famed Mariposa Folk Festival in 1971 and went on to become a regular at many Canadian festivals and clubs.  Blues, jazz, country, rock, roots, world, and contemporary music all influenced Rick's early years on the club and festival circuits and he established himself firmly in the 1970’s southern Ontario roots music scene.  As a singer-songwriter and guitarist, Rick has been featured on CBC television and radio programs Touch The Earth with host Sylvia Tyson, The Entertainers with host Bill Garrett , Peter Gzowski's 90 Minutes Live, City TV's Music City and Intimate Evenings with Songwriters on Rogers Cable TV. Other highlights of Rick's career include opening act for Bruce Cockburn and appearing in New York City as a multi-instrumentalist in Leonard Cohen's musical production The Sisters of Mercy, as well as lead guitarist in the Vancouver production of Hank Williams, The Show He Never Gave. Rick's dynamism on guitar has led to session and sideman work with Willie P. Bennett (guitarist on “Hobos Taunt” album), Stan Rogers, Doug MacArthur, and a highly acclaimed tour with Colleen Peterson, which culminated in a nine evening engagement as opening act for Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall in Toronto. He also fronted his own band The Torpedoes with legendary brother Steve Taylor on drums in Southern Ontario, as well as the Rick Taylor Band which featured some of the finest blues and jazz musicians in Vancouver, and a 3 year run with Vancouver’s HARD 8; a roots-acoustic trio featuring guitar virtuoso Paul Pigat and harmonica legend Monte. Rick Taylor is well know for his high energy live performances, rich, expressive baritone voice, and his quirky and novel song writing styles such as the cult classics "Black Leather Diaper" and "Drunkards Lullaby", as well as his delicately, haunting, well crafted ballads, and unforgettable "guitarnastics". Rick's early chart hit classics "Letters From Jane" and "Soldier in the Rain", released internationally in 1989 on Volunteer Records, remained in "gold rotation" on many radio stations around the world for several years. Rick’s international CD release entitled Clown River contains 13 original solo guitar compositions. It is a beautifully woven instrumental story where Rick has reached deeply into his influences of the great finger style guitar traditions. Clown River caught the attention of Borealis Records and Rick was invited to be a featured artist on their guitar compilation CD - Six Strings North of the Border Volume 3, released internationally in Feb. 2006 and now available as a 3 CD boxed set. This compilation includes many of Canada’s finger style guitar greats such as Bruce Cockburn, Colin Linden, Amos Garrett, Stephen Fearing, Don Ross, Kevin Breit, Harry Manx and more. After living 23 years in Vancouver where Rick performed, recorded and produced, he relocated back to his home province of Ontario in 2007 and released his long awaited and critically acclaimed CD “The Wonky Years” in 2008. This raucous 10 song collection was recorded over a 10 year period with his band and runs the range of blues, roots rock, bluegrass, rockabilly, country swing and folk - displaying the immense breadth of Rick’s song writing, guitar playing, vocal abilities and styles. Rick Taylor returns to his blues roots with his definitive CD release of “Lucky Room”. This solo collection of 11 songs covers the road from Mississippi to Chicago, paying homage to the blues masters from the late 1920’s to the early 1950’s that have helped shape Rick’s music over a 40 plus year career. This critically acclaimed work has garnered heavy rotation achieving radio chart hit status -  reaching #3 on Roots Music Report charts - Canada and #10 on the U.S.A. Roots Music Report - Blues charts. In early 2021 as the lead up to his upcoming solo acoustic album, Rick revisits his folk roots heritage with the single release of Moonlight, with studio back up by iconic musicians Emily Bindiger, Robbie Kondor, Ed Michael Roth, and Daniel Plane. As well as being an active record producer and in demand session player, Rick is also a member of the original blues-roots-rock & roll band DASHBOARD RATTLE, and the folk-rock band Essig Taylor Gifford and Miron. With the global pandemic easing, live shows are currently being booked into late summer and fall of 2021. Rick is a recipient of The Jimmy Lewis "Life Time of the Blues Award", 3X winner of The Great Lakes Blues Society "Road To Memphis" award, and the 2020 winner of The Forest City London Music Award for Blues. Julian Taylor’s recent solo recorded album ‘The Ridge’, has received and continues to receive critical acclaim across the global music community since its release in June 2020. Best known for his work as lead singer/composer for the Julian Taylor Band and his earlier years with Staggered Crossing, has led to the production and release of this latest celebrated album.

‘The Ridge’ has been hailed as Julian's breakout album. Artists including Jim Cuddy, William Prince, Rhett Miller, AHI and Justin Rutledge amongst others, have sung the albums praises.

International publications such as American Songwriter, Americana Highways, Glide Magazine, Americana UK and The Bluegrass Situation, to name but a few, have embraced it and compared it to artists including Bruce Springsteen, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Jason Isbell and Neil Young.

The first single from the album (the title track) ‘The Ridge’, hit #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown; the album debuted at #17 on the European Americana Charts; #19 on The Root Music Report, and #47 on the Earshot Charts. To date ‘The Ridge’ album has received over 1 million streams on Spotify and debuted at #12 on The Canadian Soundscan Chart. ‘The Ridge’ has also achieved radio airplay in international territories including UK, Benelux countries, Australia and further afield.

The stars aligned when Amanda Walther (FAY) and Mark Lalama (DIZZY) met on some stage on some tour somewhere in Ontario. It now seems inevitable that Mark and Amanda would find Dizzy & Fay.

Inspired by the great composers of the American Songbook, Dizzy & Fay co-write original jazz songs that echo timeless standards. Think late nights, jazz cigarettes, ASMRomance and songs you swear you’ve loved your whole life.

 

Dizzy is Mark Lalama. Canadian singer, songwriter/, pianist & producer Mark Lalama began performing professionally at age 12. His original performing and recording projects include The Mark Lalama Trio, Accordion Crimes, Sisters Euclid, and Dizzy & Fay. He has performed extensively across Canada, the U.S.A., and internationally, and can be heard performing on dozens of studio recordings. He has also recorded and/or toured with many artists including Guido Basso, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Marc Jordan, John McDermott, Chrissie Hynde, Olivia Newton John, Harry Manx, Tom Cochrane and many more. He is an acclaimed pianist/producer/writer who has worked with some of the top Canadian jazz artists including legends like Jackie Richardson, Marc Jordan, Guido Basso, and Molly Johnson.

She has shared the stage with numerous artists including Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens, Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Stuart McLean of the CBC’s Vinyl Café and has performed in countless festivals like the New Orleans Jazz Festival and the Newport Folk Festival. Dala’s PBS Special ‘Girls from the North Country’ earned Amanda a Canadian Folk Music Award and a Juno nomination. Her songs have been featured in film and television including Degrassi: The Next Generation, Flashpoint, The Goodwitch and most recently she composed all the music for the award winning LGBTQ+ indie film ‘Walk With Me’ for which she was awarded Best Female Composer at the Toronto International Women Festival.

"In case you didn't get the memo, they're the best country band in North America," said Eye magazine about the Rizdales.

Lead by husband and wife songwriting team Tom and Tara Dunphy, the Rizdales are a hardcore honky tonk band from London, Ontario.  Their sound however, comes from deep in the heart of the American south.

Heavily influenced by the classic country greats, such as Ray Price, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn, The Rizdales sing about love, loss and reality without ever taking themselves too seriously.  They have released 7 critically acclaimed albums, were handpicked by the Queen of Rockabilly Wanda Jackson to be her Canadian backing band and have played festivals, hole in the wall bars and concert halls from Ottawa to Austin, performing alongside such greats as Dale Watson, The Derailers, The Mavericks, and The Good Brothers, earmarking their place in Canadian roots music history.  The Rizdales' most recent release, "Lucky Enough" was released on September 8, 2018 and features instant country hits like the title track, "Lucky Enough", "Holding It All Together" and the Western Swing barn burner, "Honky Tonk Honeymoon".

The Western Swing Authority is Canada's most recognized and awarded authentic Western Swing group. Made up of a collection of some of the country's finest touring and studio musicians, they came together to play the timeless style of music they love. Seamlessly combining stellar musicianship and vocals with traditional country and jazz standards and their own “new vintage” originals, they have created a sound that is truly their own.  

WSA have been recognized with awards and nominations in both Canada and the United States and are reintroducing the Western Swing sound to an entire new generation of music lovers with every performance. Their live show has been described as “all killer, no filler” by Cashbox Canada Magazine.

Their 4th studio album, “BIG DEAL”, includes guest appearances by 9x Grammy winner Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, Grammy nominated Jazz sensation Jane Monheit, Canadian Country Stars George Canyon and Jason McCoy, along with many more amazing artists who have added their support and talent to the project.  Over their almost 12 years together they have captured the attention of two of the music industry's most legendary icons, receiving an invitation to play a private party in Nashville in March of 2018 for none other than Garth Brooks and his manager Bob Doyle.

Though individual members’ touring and recording credits are impressive, including names like Gordon Lightfoot and Dean Brody, it is the sum of the parts that is garnering attention and recognition worldwide.

Iain Wilson is a Glasgow-based singer songwriter, infusing current pop styles with 80s synth. Iain’s musical style draws inspiration from bands such as CHVRCHES and artists like Charli XCX, with his music branching further into a genre that has both unique qualities and yet is familiar to the listener.

Signed under Wee Studio records, based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Iain has recently released his 9-track debut album “Holding On ‘Til Sunrise”.

The album’s title comes from a lyric taken from the last track of the album “Sunrise”, which works to encapsulate the overall objective of the full body of work - the opportunity to tell the story about the continuous struggles that mental health issues bring. With this final track, there is the hope and light that comes with the sunrise, the dawning of a new day and new promise. The album builds to this moment, with tracks “Faking Smiles” and “Another Mind at War” laying bare the tougher, darker times that mental health can present. Iain wanted to ensure that the album ultimately offered promise and hope, the tracks build through the turmoil and the darkness and move towards a more positive and brighter outcome with “Sunrise”.

The first two singles from this album have catchy pop melodies, whilst the addition of synth provides a distinct edge to the album. His first single release “Reasons Why” featured through BBC Music Introducing early this year and progressed to him recording a live session for BBC nan Gàidheal in April 2020. The follow up to this single, “I Want to Run”, was released on the 15th of May 2020. Both tracks are accompanied by music videos featuring Iain that can be viewed here or on youtube .

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Kathleen began her harp studies with Nora Bumanis, and completed her Bachelor of Music at McGill University studying under Jennifer Swartz. She has had the pleasure of playing with the London Community Orchestra since 2008, and has also performed with professional orchestras in Edmonton, Stratford, London, and Kitchener, as well as musical theater productions throughout southwestern Ontario. She performs frequently as a chamber musician, choral and vocal accompanist, and in church music settings. She also enjoys educating the public about the harp, and coaching composers with an interest in writing for the instrument. Kathleen is an enthusiastic teacher to her studio of harp students, who have ranged in age from 5 to 60. She also founded and continues to lead the harp ensemble program offered through Forest City String School since 2010.

Kathleen also works as an occupational therapist, working with individuals who have experienced health concerns that affect their ability to participate in daily activities. At times, this work offers her the opportunity to support the musical community: she offers injury prevention and management workshops to musicians of all levels, and she has been a clinician since 2016 with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, assisting students and staff who are struggling with physical or mental health challenges that affect their ability to practice and perform.

Julie Michels was born in New Jersey and raised throughout Europe and the USA, before settling in Toronto, Canada. Her travels instilled a wanderlust not only for different countries, but for diversified cultures and distinct musical genres, all of which helped mold her career in music.

Her next CD is set to be recorded in New York. A re-interpretation of the songs of Lyle Lovett, it will be produced by Grammy Award nominated Mark Ruffin.

While attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison, ultimately receiving a Bachelor of Political Science degree with a minor in Macro Economics, Julie studied jazz with the bassist, Richard Davis.

After graduation, Julie traveled to Scotland where she worked as a singer for six months. The following year, she performed at jazz clubs throughout Europe including the Jazz Vortex in London, the Cafe Gorilla in Paris and the Jazz Cafe in Brussels. She performed in Germany, Italy and Holland as well as appearing at the Glasgow Music Festival, the Bridgeport Music Festival, the Aaran Musical Festival on the Isle of Aaran, the North Sea Jazz Festival and Utrecht Festival in Holland

Recently, Julie has focused on North American venues including the Toronto Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, Merrickville Jazz Festival, Haitian International Jazz Festival, as well as stages throughout Canada and the United States. In 2017, she performed in Egypt at the Jazz Tales Festival in Cairo and in 2018 Julie performed in Alexandria with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.

Julie has performed, toured and recorded with Kevin Barrett, George Koller, Ottawa’s Chelsea Bridge, the MCCT Choir (Diane Leah, Musical Director) and her own bands, Sutra and Parla. As well as the Chicago Free Jazz Movement Kahil El’Zabar, Ernest Dawkins, the legendary BeBop Musician Dougie Richardson, composer and pianist Nancy Walker, pianist and composer Adrean Farrugia, Grammy Award winner Joe Sealy, pianist and composer Robie Botos, drummer Larnell Lewis, pianist and composer the late Archie Alleyne, Indian tablah player Ratech Das, Columbian percussionist Chendy Leon, guitarist Kevin Barrett, pianist and composer Gordon Webster, and the legendary Bob Fenton Davide.

Julie’s latest projects include the Braden/Michels Jazz Project with saxophonist Don Braden and pianist and arranger, David Restivo. Julie is a member of Broadsway with fellow vocalists, Heather Bambrick and Diane Leah. She has also worked with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, the Toronto Tabla Ensemble, the Ancient Voices Project, the Madison Celtic Renaissance Consort and the Blackhawk Stringband and JazzWorks Jazz Camp. In 2012, Julie played a major role in “Amazing Voice”, Japan’s national television documentary about the diverse face of Canadian music.
