Whiskey Jack - Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom

Since Whiskey Jack's inception 45+ years ago, their fans have been showering them with accolades celebrating their songs and stories.  But the one constant that has fueled their success is what brings the crowds to their feet each night -  a polished show exuding charm, ease and playfulness, qualities welcomed in this post Covid world.  Since day 1, Duncan Fremlin has been plying his trade as the singer/banjo player/leader of Whiskey Jack.  Over the years, elite members of the Canadian music community have enjoyed time in the Whiskey Jack family.

Success followed in the 1980's when the band was invited to host their own "Ol' Back Porch" segment on the CBC TV's Tommy Hunter Show.  A few years later when Stompin' Tom resumed his career, he called Duncan and invited his band to join him in the studio to record his acclaimed album, "Dr. Stompin' Tom... Eh?". These two Canadian musical institutions would continue to perform and record together until Tom's death in 2014. Now Duncan is joined by two time Juno nominee Douglas John Cameron to carry the Whiskey Jack tradition into a post COVID world.
Douglas John gained fame and notoriety in 1985 with his song Mona With The Children (True North Records). He was also well known for his appearances on Ants in Your Pants (Treehouse TV). His theatrical and dynamic approach to performing, coupled with his talents on many instruments bring an endless supply of energy to this already dynamic band.

Whiskey Jack in 2023 continues to write, record and tour across the country. Their new self-produced album is now available on all platforms.

Canada's own Multi-Platinum singer/songwriter, Luke McMaster, is back to spread the yuletide romance. With chart-topping Christmas anthems like "Raise A Glass," "Merry Christmas Beautiful,” and "Christmas In Slo Mo," it's evident that the holiday season holds a special place in McMaster's heart. Fresh off winning a prestigious Silver Bell award for best Christmas song (beating out Dolly Parton for the honour), Luke confesses, "I keep releasing Christmas music every year, and doing a full Christmas concert has been long overdue. The Aeolian Hall, with its vintage charm, is the perfect setting for this festive celebration.”

Through collaborations with icons like Smokey Robinson, Lamont Dozier and Felix Cavaliere on 'Icons Of Soul,' and ‘Songs Of Smokey’ Luke underwent a transformation as a singer and songwriter. These legends have been his mentors, imparting invaluable wisdom about singing and writing from the depths of the heart. This transformation has significantly influenced his approach to his Christmas music.

With special guest, gospel sensation, Kevin Pauls, along with the soulful talents of Selena Evangeline on guitar and vocals, and the Juno award-winning musician Joel Parisien on piano and vocals it will be an unforgettable evening. “The 4 part harmonies alone are reason to come to the show!” quips McMaster.

Prepare to be entertained by a repertoire featuring timeless Holiday Classics including this years re-imagine of the Joni Mitchell classic “River”, a blend of Luke's original compositions, and his very own top 10 Hits.

Don't miss your chance to experience the magic of Luke McMaster's Christmas concert, a night filled with incredible music, soulful harmonies, and the warm spirit of the holiday season. Get your tickets now, and let Luke and his band serenade you this year!

Luke McMaster, celebrated as the champion of blue-eyed soul in Canada, has left an indelible mark on the music world. As a prolific songwriter, his talents have graced the works of chart-toppers like Rihanna and Nick Lachey. In 2018, he crafted brand-new treasures with that classic sound for legends such as Lamont Dozier of Motown and Rascal's founder Felix Cavaliere on the 'Icons Of Soul' album. His dedication to honoring the greats continued with the release of 'Songs Of Smokey' in 2020, a tribute to the legendary Smokey Robinson. The man himself, Smokey Robinson, praised Luke's rendition of the Miracles' 1965 classic, "Ooh Baby Baby," to his 1,000,000-plus followers on social media, saying, "Amazing job, Luke!" Let's not forget the smash hit from 2013 when Luke collaborated with pianist Jim Brickman on "Good Morning Beautiful," a #3 hit on the Billboard AC chart.

Daniel Champagne

Daniel Champagne lives and breathes live music. The Australian virtuoso has been described as “the finest guitar player of this generation”, “a leading light in acoustic music” and “a performer that must be seen to be believed” and from March to June 2024, music lovers across Canada will be treated to an intimate live experience not to be missed!

Growing up in the Bega Valley, on the Far South Coast of New South Wales Australia, the story goes that the young singer-songwriter and one of a kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a 5-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could, honing his craft and developing the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he finished school, turned professional and hit the road without looking back.

The following 15 years have seen him independently release 7 studio albums, tour relentlessly around the globe, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, John Butler, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Playing upwards of 250 shows a year, Daniel is passionate about spreading live music around the world and on the back of a sold out 2022 tour tour, his return trip will include 56 shows from Vancouver Island all the way out to Newfoundland!

WHAT THE PRESS SAY..

“The word Prodigy seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills, he coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” The Calgary Herald, CANADA

“Today I saw the future of Folk – Festival goers flocking in the thousands towards the main stage to witness a young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper.” The Firefly Column, USA

“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads. Fusing the strong traditions of Blues, Folk and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.” The Indie Blender, CANADA

“reinventing roots guitar” Rhythms Magazine, AUSTRALIA

“Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art.” BW Review, NEW ZEALAND

“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical” Themusic.com.au, AUSTRALIA

"You feel as if he just invented the instrument yesterday and was discovering its possibilities afresh” Ted Gioia (American jazz critic and music historian)

The Memphis Jam

The December 16th show represents the 9th appearance by the Memphis Jam at the Aeolian Music Hall.  It also represents the 10-year anniversary of the band, whose inaugural performance also occurred at the Aeolian.

Many people cite Memphis Tennessee as the birthplace of contemporary forms of music.  Inspired by early Memphis artists, and later artists significantly influenced by the Memphis music scene, the Memphis Jam plays a range of memorable, upbeat rock n roll, funk, and blues classics.

The Memphis Jam, founded by Gary Lima (lead guitar and vocals) and Jeff Wright (vocals and guitar) is rounded out by Paul Fleury (bass and vocals), and Steve Malison (keyboards, sax, guitar and vocals).  Sitting in on drums for the evening will be Miguel Thompson.  Lima toured with and/or backed such artists as: Frankie Venom of “Teenage Head”; John Mellencamp; Billy Idol; and Stevie Ray Vaughan.  Fleury played in popular local bands “Sugarfoot” and “Raising Kane” and Malison was a former member of the now infamous band “Player”.  Thompson, a recent graduate of the Fanshawe College Music and Industry Arts Program, was the drummer for last year’s sold out “Share the Land” concert at the London Music Hall.  Thompson currently backs a number of popular emerging Canadian artists including King Cruff, Jag Hulligan, and Sarina Haggarty.

Come out and be prepared to rock the night away!  All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Fanshawe College United Way Campaign.

Legends II - An Evening of Music with Matt Martin

Matt Martin Bio:

No stranger to the stage, or the pulpit, Rev. Matthew Martin has been an Anglican priest for ten years and has been impersonating Elvis since before he was six. A true performer, Martin was the headliner in the Drayton Entertainment production of Blue Suede Shoes in 2012, and was named the Grand Champion, of the non-professional category in 2010 for his tribute of the King of Rock and Roll in Collingwood, Ontario.

Matt finds his true passion working as the Anglican Priest and Chaplain at Huron University College.  Martin’s voice always captivates – whether he is singing a century-old religious hymn, a touching Christmas carol or an upbeat rock song, you can clearly see his soul in every performance.

Matt is also the former spiritual director at Camp Wendake, but remains an avid supporter of the program. He has decided to dedicate his talent in support of Camp Wendake. All proceeds from this evening go to the camp.

Camp Wendake Bio:

Camp Wendake is a one-week residential camp program for children and adults living with HIV, their families and caregivers. Camp Wendake is an amazing contradiction! People gather because of a common health concern but find freedom from focusing upon the disease for a brief time and find an opportunity to celebrate life in a community where HIV/AIDS in the norm. People may choose to attend camp in order to learn and share more about coping with their overall health and social issues. Or they may come for the rest and refreshment of a caring and understanding community.
