The Rebelheart Collective is a chamber music ensemble formed to celebrate classical and new music from varied cultural backgrounds.  Its main focus is to make music performance and education accessible to all and support Social Justice causes through collaboration and awareness.  With a focus on collaboration, community and apprenticeship opportunities, the Collective aims to dissolve barriers between artists and audiences with a relaxed presentation and welcoming spirit.

Aeolian Halls’ Rebelheart Collective is a self-conducted music ensemble rooted in democracy through music. With a focus on collaboration, apprenticeship and community engagement, the Rebelheart Collective transforms the traditional concert going experience by providing complimentary access to live performances in a socially relaxed setting. At its core, the musicians are highly trained professionals who have chosen to give back to the community, helping to train our next generations of musicians including participants of the El Sistema Aeolian program. The Collective’s repertoire includes classical music, contemporary works, and compositions and arrangements that speak to the Canadian music tradition: many of which celebrate our collectively local and Indigenous history.

Mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah is a singer, actress and broadcaster who dazzles audiences with her engaging personality and her rich, expressive voice. Miss Nesrallah has sung for leading opera companies, symphonies, festivals and chamber music ensembles across Canada and the U.S. and around the world. Julie débuted as Isabella in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri at Pacific Opera Victoria and went on to perform major roles including The Composer in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Cenerentola in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen and Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto, among others.

Concerts and festivals include engagements in Paris, Vienna, Hong Kong, Jordan, Macau, Brazil. In 2015, Miss Nesrallah sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City in a concert for harp and voice.  She sang God Save the Queen for “Will and Kate” the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their first visit to Canada on Parliament Hill in a performance that was viewed around the world. She was the sole vocalist in “An Evening for Peace” for Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan in Montreal.

Currently, Miss Nesrallah is the host of Tempo on CBC Music, Canada’s national classical music program; and is also the executive producer and star of Carmen on Tap, a company she created that performs Bizet’s opera Carmen as dinner theatre. Julie has been the recipient of several distinguished awards including the Canada Council for the Arts Emerging Artist Award, and most recently the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her cultural contribution to Canada’s performing arts.

Miss Nesrallah graduated with honours from Carleton University in Ottawa where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in music and continued her studies at McGill University in Montreal graduating with a Performance Diploma.

Bryn Blackwood is a solo and collaborative pianist based in Toronto, Ontario, with a keen interest in 20th and 21st century music. As the winner of the 2019 Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, he gave a Canadian recital tour, bringing contemporary Canadian music to nine cities across the country. In 2020/2021 Bryn performs in a livestreamed recital of works by Canadian composer Jacques Hétu at the Canadian Music Centre, and makes his solo debut with the Vancouver Island Symphony, in Mozart’s Piano Concerto no.20 in D minor.

​In 2019 Bryn was featured on the prestigious CBC 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30 List,

and was a finalist and winner of the Paul J. Bourret Memorial Award for Best Performance of the Test Piece at the 2018 Shean Piano Competition.

​A recipient of a Joseph-Armand Bombardier SSHRC award for his studies of the Russian-American piano composer Leo Ornstein, he is continuing this research while pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto. Formerly a student of the late acclaimed pedagogue Marietta Orlov, he now studies with Lydia Wong. Bryn received his Bachelor and Masters of Music degrees from Western University and McGill University respectively.

​Also a dedicated teacher, Bryn has taught at the Kingsway Conservatory of Music in Etobicoke, and also maintains his own private piano studio.

Located in London, Ontario, Mr. Love has performed as a classical guitarist from Los Angeles to Quebec City. He is also active as a chamber musician, performing regularly with the Artamus Guitar Trio and Trio di Gala (flute, oboe and guitar) and and Duo di Gala (flute and guitar).

He received his musical training at Los Angeles Valley College (Robert Mayeur) and the University of Southern California (James Smith, William Kanengiser). He has also played in master classes with David Leisner, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Benjamin Verdery.

As an award winning, published composer, Mr. Love has composed for film and television and publishes his own works on his web site  Music4ClassicalGuitar.com. Encompassing a wide range of styles, his compositions are descriptive in nature with rich, colourful textures that evoke strong visual imagery.

In addition to his performance schedule, Mr. Love has maintained a thriving teaching practice for over 25 years, working one on one with students of all ages and coaching ensemble classes.

When not wrapped around a guitar, Mr. Love is often practicing aikido or walking by the river in search of abandoned tree forts.

Since resuming face-to-face lessons, the children and youth of El Sistema Aeolian have been furiously working toward their next performance.  Like the Aeolian, they are limited to the “virtual” concert hall.  The December online presentation (the first of its kind for El Sistema Aeolian) was a success, and the young musicians are determined to make their Spring fling even better! Classes are already rehearsing and preparing to record their presentations in early April.

These performances will be edited and come together to create a complete El Sistema Aeolian Concert experience!  This free concert will premier on El Sistema and Aeolian's Facebook pages. Tickets are not required and you do not need to pre-register: just click and enjoy!

Concert highlights will include a Vivaldi String Concerto, The Entertainer, Minuet by JS Bach, and the classic Woodchopper’s Ball performed by our Jazz Band!

British Columbian Bass-Baritone Chad Louwerse made his European debut as Bernadino in Berlioz’ Benvenuto Cellini with l’Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, France. In Canada he has been engaged by Pacific Opera Victoria, Vancouver Opera, Edmonton Opera, and l’Opéra de Montréal, among others. An active oratorio singer and recitalist, Mr. Louwerse’s concert repertoire includes the Bach Mass in B-minor, the Brahms and Mozart Requiems and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. He is a winner of both the CBC Westcoast Performance Pacific Spotlight competition and the Début competition and has given recitals broadcast on CBC Radio Two. He teaches voice at Western University and now resides in London, Ontario.

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Kathleen began her harp studies with Nora Bumanis, and completed her Bachelor of Music at McGill University studying under Jennifer Swartz. She has had the pleasure of playing with the London Community Orchestra since 2008, and has also performed with professional orchestras in Edmonton, Stratford, London, and Kitchener, as well as musical theater productions throughout southwestern Ontario. She performs frequently as a chamber musician, choral and vocal accompanist, and in church music settings. She also enjoys educating the public about the harp, and coaching composers with an interest in writing for the instrument. Kathleen is an enthusiastic teacher to her studio of harp students, who have ranged in age from 5 to 60. She also founded and continues to lead the harp ensemble program offered through Forest City String School since 2010.

Kathleen also works as an occupational therapist, working with individuals who have experienced health concerns that affect their ability to participate in daily activities. At times, this work offers her the opportunity to support the musical community: she offers injury prevention and management workshops to musicians of all levels, and she has been a clinician since 2016 with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, assisting students and staff who are struggling with physical or mental health challenges that affect their ability to practice and perform.

Love is in the air...

Laurraine Sigouin has appeared as a singer at Maggie's, Aeolian Hall, Restaurant Ninety-One, London Music Club, Jazz by the Bog, London Jazz Society, and at the long-standing "Jazz for the People" concert series. She is a proud member of the wonderful vocal ensemble Mosaic, which has performed at the Home County Folk Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. She also performs with LP Soul, a collective of soul-loving musicians who are passionate about creating a musical experience that moves and grooves. Along with Jake Levesque, she founded Enchanté which has been serving up a bilingual mix of jazz and other styles of music to London area audiences since 2004. Their motto is “Laissez les bons temps rouler!”, which is French for “Let the good times roll!”.

Based in London Ontario, Canadian guitarist Andrew Cloutier has been making music professionally since the early 2000s. He studied at Western University in London, with a focus on music theory, composition, and classical guitar performance.

He has received awards and recognitions from the Jack Richardson London music awards, the OMFA provincial music festival, and Western University. He has also participated in masterclasses with world renowned guitarists and composers, including Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, the Assad Brothers, and David Russell.

As a performer, his musical interests include the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, music from South America, and works by contemporary composers. In addition, he is an instructor at the London Academy of Music, and the music director at Strathroy United Church in Strathroy Ontario.

The Rebekah Wolkstein & Drew Jurecka duo has performed at Harbourfront's Summer Music in the Garden, Xenia Concerts, National Arts Centre's 'Canada Presents' series. Rebekah and Drew have made a name for themselves in their projects, Payadora Tango Ensemble www.payadora.com and Venuti String Quartet www.venutistringquartet.com. Individually, they are sought after as performers and recording artists in a variety of genres. Rebekah has performed and toured with Toronto Symphony, National Ballet of Canada and Canadian Opera Company. Drew is a staple of the Toronto Jazz scene and has recently made a name for himself as an arranger. His arrangements have been performed by Toronto Symphony, National Arts Orchestra and have been featured on platinum selling albums. They teach at Humber College where they helped to create a unique strings program. Multi-instrumentalists, Drew and Rebekah play woodwinds, strings, sing, compose and arrange their own music. In their duo performance, they share their many skills. They have been performing as a duo together since 2001 while students at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music. They performed twice a week as strolling musicians at an Italian restaurant during this time. They became comfortable taking requests, improvising and playing all genres of music. Now married, they have three young daughters, two of whom play the violin. They have been producing family music videos during covid.
